Is it still possible to "reserve" the upgrade to 10? My friend was a bit slow off the mark, never got around to doing it and now can't find the link.

Only think I can suggest is get them to go through the force reservation.
Try method 3 from this link

Thank you.
I don't think she'd be keen on trying that - might be a tech step too far, especially when it mentions doing it at her own risk and changing registry files!
She'll probably have to remain on Windows 7 - it was only me mentioning the release of Windows 10 and saying we were able to get the free upgrade that prompted her to show any interest. I did send her the link to reserve 10 a couple of weeks ago but she didn't act on it. Oh well ....
Thank you.0 -

Yeah I would live with the privacy issue and install win 10 if it was only that I think. It is the forced "updates" thats the real killer.
BTW apparently there is an official microsoft patch now apparently that allows you to uninstall some updates and stop them from being re-installed. I don't think it works for every type of update and you cant block updates initially with it, they have to download and install before you can remove/block them. Still it it a small u-turn.0 -

No, we don't want to actually download it yet, she'll never cope with any bugs, glitches or surprise happenings. Best left on 7 I think.0 -

custardy , if you are doing a clean install from a dvd/stick , activation will not work , look back a page for instructions
I actually think it "grabs" the serial No of the machine it "expands" to a iso on , on my last install (clean) it said "wrong" ser no , even tho I went "skip" on install0
