Oh -- are Microsoft wrong, then? Or are they just talking about losing the ability to do an in-place downgrade of Windows 10 to 7?
I'm pretty sure it's the latter. There is an in-built function to go back which presumably will disappear, although I think the approach of taking your own backup image of Windows 7 before you upgrade is safer and is what I'd do.

From what I can gather the question isn't one of installation of the old OS, rather one of whether or not the original licence key will still be valid post Win 10 installation / uninstallation.
There is some discussion on this MS thread, but TBH they don't really appear to have an answer.

Is the Windows 10 upgrade picked up doing a Windows Update, currently using Windows 8.1? I have just done a Windows update check and there is no mention of a Windows 10 upgrade..

If I was not put off upgrading to 10 enough - this kind of rubber stamped it for me.

OK - I am finally running Win 10
it took about an hour to download and another (almost) 2 hours to install - this is on a 2.8Mhz dual core Processor - 8Gb RAM machine - so it is never going to take "around an hour" - MS claim !!
Has anyone figured out how to save the OS to ISO or restore previous OS if needed ?
Classic Shell and Set IE as default browser already
I was not required to input any licence key
Everything else appears compatible (Thunderbird, Firefox, Ccleaner etc ett)
BUT it is considerably slower than 8.1 at most things !!

Why? If you currently have an OEM licence and change out certain hardware, the licence expires. So change the MOBO and you need to buy a new licence.
There is no reason why the same situation could not be applied here. No retail licence, no way to re-use the key.

Not ALL circumstances are the same, so blanket statements do not work.

Agreed, and if you have a Facebook account as well you can say goodbye to any scraps of privacy you had left.

All things considered I did want to upgrade to Windows 10 but the forced updates rule has killed any chance of that. I have important and private files on my computer which is used for sensitive things. There is no way I am authorising a company to be able to install whatever they want on it whenever they want.

The privacy thing is just confirming my choice.

Having done multiple installs of 10 on various machines. It never took anywhere near an hour, let alone 2.
