I wonder how updates from oem windows 7 will work, will it need the manual entering of the attached COA, or rely on the slic bios code of the oem.
If it is the former, i do hope they ask for the key right at the beginning. There are a lot of portable devices out there who have had the COA key completely rubbed out.0 -
I've lucked out and eventually forced the icon to appear. I posted the method here but for some reason the forum blocked the post - possibly because it is in essence manually running the actual command the scheduled task does in an elevated command prompt and I'd typed in the command. Seems a bit daft but is maybe some malware block.
I've detailed my method in http://www.digitalham.co.uk/missing-getwindows10-app/ should others need the info. I've no idea why it worked when simply manually forcing the task to run didn't.

Ah - checking the compatibility tool it does say that the Intel HD 4000 graphics card has compatibility issues - that's possibly why it wasn't running the app automatically. I'm guessing there must be lots of people wondering why they aren't getting the invite.0 -
My gripe is that you can change the notification status of the icon - e.g. to Only Show Notifications - yet every time I reboot my laptop the icon reverts to the Show Icon and Notifications status!
Respect my wishes will you, M$! :mad:0 -

How long are the invites going for? i.e. if I don't reserve one now, will I lose the chance to do so at any point.
I disconnected the Win8.1 disk when I got this computer and put in a new one to install another OS, so haven't booted that disk since October. Hence will be a bit of a faff to do, so would be nice if I don't have to rush. Especially since I'm only slightly bothered about updating it anyway.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

You will have 12 months from date of launch (currently 29th July) to upgrade for free. Not having the invite or not acknowledging it doesn't mean you can't get it whenever you want. It's just one method of getting everyone to update asap.

We got the notification icon to reserve on the Samsung series 9 notebook (running Win7) but it's yet to appear on the Toshiba laptop running Win8.1.
How long do we wait for it?
What happens if it doesn't appear?
We're happy with Win7, it's Win8.1 which we'd like to update.0 -

Not much point asking a question after demonstrating that reading is not necessarily an acquired skill..;):)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
