I had thought it was because I'm currently on a 3g Mifi.

I connect via a MiFi Dongle, and I've got the update icon in my System Tray.

There is a very good MS site for keeping up to date with news about the Windows 10 deployment, it's at:

    http://www.windows10update.com/
What makes you think it's an MS site?

It looks more to me like it's an independent website, and therefore probably just gathers information and rumour already in the public domain rather than having 'official' answers.

From the same site there is a section on How much win 10 will cost:

If only that would be a MS site. Or is Mr. or Mrs. Amobi the owner of Microsoft? ;)

Rumour has it that although Win10 is free, after 12 Months if you want any essential or security updates from MS, have your bank card ready to pay for them. ;)
I'm guessing you got the rumour from someone as uninformed as yourself. That's how this silliness usually gets spread around.

Show me where you can buy it right now. Windows 10 FINAL is not released yet.

I guess Microsoft will just be on holiday for the next two months then.

The Beta period is over, this is the final release code.

How long do you think it will take to stamp, package and ship a few million boxed physical copies to every country in the world. Its no different to the 2 months or so from final code date to release for other version of Windows.

No - Windows 10 is still very much in a testing phase with bugs still to fix.

The latest preview release from Microsoft on Friday only went out to some people because (a) they wanted to get the ISO out to people to get past a bug in the install process and (b)it still has bugs that they're trying to fix before giving it to people on the 'slow ring' for preview releases.

I believe later builds exist internally in Microsoft (and have been leaked) - see the aforementioned fan site for instance.

My experience with the latest released Preview build is that there are still bugs which would be enough to stop them releasing it.

If you click the option to upgrade then you will get released code at the end of July, but it's by no means finished as of today.

Nope, still plenty of bugs to fix before the slow ring gets hold of something like the finished version. Also some bug checking code to clean up.

It will be released to upgrade before it is available in stores, think of it as the old RTM which was a few weeks ahead of any retail release.
