Windows 10

I've upgraded my Win 7 PC to 10, having taken a full image backup first, so I can always go back to 7 via that or clean installing the original. An old Vista box (with the 10 preview on it) I have is going to get Linux on it, as it wasn't eligible for the free upgrade.
Wouldn't pay for 10. 7 was at least as good, if not better IMO, But it is without any shadow of a doubt, better than 8!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. correct ,2010, the MACHINE , not the OS , hence the reason for being able to format and reload , and skip the activation code , one loaded your machine contacts the MS server, who confirm that the machine (bios string or maybe its colour!) has already been registered with them
if you have installed pro previously it lets you go down to the home basic type ones , but if you have previously installed a basic , it will not accept Pro0 -

Ah, but no one knows is what is going to happen sometime later after the first month is up during which period you can revert.
Will the licence key now be permanently attached to the win 10 install so that even if you have a win 7 image it will now say that your win 7 image/re-install is illegal/unlicenced?
Somehow I cannot see MS willing let you go back and use win 7 rather than 10 in say a year's time.0 -
however win 7 activation is via serial number , but as stated above win 10 is by bios string
if you load win 7 (with key) without a internet connection , it will come up as activated , will it de activate when you connect to the web?
is every windows machine in the world going to the ms 10 server to be checked? on a daily/hourly/minute by minute basis0 -

I've finally given in to the temptation to install classic shell and say goodbye to the Windows 10 start menu (although it is still easily available).. Sorry MS I did try but sometimes changing stuff which millions are familiar with to something clunkier isn't the way forward.0

Is there any way to stop Defender wanting to do a quick scan twice a day?0
-
sorry I cant help you with that one , the micro machine I am using has no disc activity light , so I cannot tell,
if you have lots of MP$s , MP3s , piccis etc you can tell defender not to check those folders0 -
no I've not done that. Not sure why i'd want to after 30 days?
So why have you answered a different question to the one that was asked. Not sure why you'd want to do that?ChiefGrasscutter wrote: »Ah, but no one knows is what is going to happen sometime later after the first month is up during which period you can revert.

Well, post #1275 seems to answer that one. I certainly hope it's true!0 -
Is there a way to turn off the spying software after you have upgraded to Win 10?0
