It's a HP Pavilion dv6000 according to the sticker on it. A few years old. My laptop definitely says the software is not activated. This may not be the reason my w10 failed, but I strongly suspect it.
OK so...I understand the concept about the product key, but is that not as dodgy as the counterfeit software? Sorry, I don't mean to offend but I'm really not wanting to keep going on this software. Or am I misunderstanding?
I'm struggling to find a guaranteed genuine w7, but I seem to still be able to get w8.1. Is that not any good for loading on top of my dodgy software?
I presume at some point w7 will not be supported any more.
many thanks

Don't panic. We'll get rid of any hacked software.
I need the full part number, in order to determine the exact specification.
It will be written on the underside. Similar to this: p/n: GA218UA#ABL0 -
Has anyone got the windows dvd player downloaded yet?
It's £15 - you can find it in the Windows App Store - you go ahead if you want to know what it's like, I can't see too many moneysavers paying for it when they can use the free VLC and others...0 -

It`s supposed to be free from MSN and come via an update.
To get the program, you don't need to do anything—the free version will come to you as a download through Windows Update. If you haven't gotten it yet, you can bypass the wait by going to Settings > Update & Security > Check for Updates. If KB3081704 is among the available updates that begin to download and install, you'll have the free Windows DVD Player app afterward.0 -

Shut down win 10 it reboots ok.
Close lid and it sleeps and wakes up ok.
Hibernate and it wakes ok.
BUT press restart and it starts to reboot but the screen goes completely black (no mouse cursor is showing) just completely black.
The only way to get out of it is to hit the power button which shuts it down completely and then reboot.0 -

HP Pavilion dv6625em Entertainment Notebook PC
So...you have a few options.
1. You can go back to Genuine Vista and then upgrade to Genuine Windows 10.
2. You can update the laptop by running the latest version of the Motherboard firmware, then to install a clean copy of Genuine Windows 7
3. Leading on from 2.; you can stay with Windows 7 (will likely run better with the clean install) which will still be supported until 2020 or upgrade to Windows 10 for free before July 2016.
Think about it and let me know. No financial cost attached to any of the options.0 -
