Follow the below steps then restart the installation, whether from the Windows 10 ISO or the auto update.
Disable all AV and Malware scanning temporarily.
Disable the Windows firewall AND and 3rd party firewall.
If you have any USB devices attached, remove them all BAR the keyboard and mouse.
Restart the install. Quote!
Thanks Custardy. I disabled Norton AV and Windows 10 is now installed and up and running.0 -

You can use the ISO to update to Windows 10, and I've done it more than once. It's much easier if you have limited download bandwidth, and more than one computer, to download the ISO once and use it to upgrade.
The only thing to remember is you don't boot from the ISO - instead you run setup.exe from within Windows and upgrade that way.0 -

What is the brand name and full model number of your machine?
Sorry, I got distracted by work
It's a HP Pavilion dv6000 according to the sticker on it. A few years old. My laptop definitely says the software is not activated. This may not be the reason my w10 failed, but I strongly suspect it.
OK so...I understand the concept about the product key, but is that not as dodgy as the counterfeit software? Sorry, I don't mean to offend but I'm really not wanting to keep going on this software. Or am I misunderstanding?
I'm struggling to find a guaranteed genuine w7, but I seem to still be able to get w8.1. Is that not any good for loading on top of my dodgy software?
I presume at some point w7 will not be supported any more.
many thanks

I`ve read all that and tried it but it doesn`t work.
i uninstalled the drivers and restarted win 10 but it didn`t detect webcam central.
I also can`t find a safe download of webcam 2.0 anywhere.
I don`t think Dell has solved the problem as it says my laptop (3 yeras old) is not supported for win 10.
there is an app called quickcam that opens (but it`s limited what you can do)it but I would have expected Dell to find an answer.
Everyone can google but it doesn`t always come up with the solution, especially with a new OS.0 -

Why not just use the camera app, I take it your webcam is actually working ?Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
