Well, it just happened again folks! Lost internet. Nothing untoward in settings.
So I just about managed to remember what the Plusnet guy told me to do on Wednesday.......
I typed the server address into the address bar and got a login pop up, into which I typed the router access password ( on the bottom of the router). Then I got a sort of service pop up; got into internet access, pressed disconnect, and checked my username was correct, which it was. I then re-typed in my own broadband password and pressed connect.
I was then able to get internet again.
Has anyone any idea why this might be happening? The first time, yes, it might have been because the server thought I had a different router, (although I'd been using it for over a year!), but this router is the one they know I'm using!
I don't suppose it could be anything to do with my iPad? I got sent an upgrade to iOS8 a while back, but I haven't installed it because I'd heard there were glitches and I was scared to. I can't think that the internet problems are anything to do with that, though.
Obviously, if this keeps happening, I'll get back on to Plusnet; in the meantime, if I can reconnect doing the above procedure, it's not too bad, albeit a bit of hassle. Just a bit puzzled!(I just lurve spiders!)

Diagnosing problems over the internet is difficult but ....
By "the server address" do you mean the IP address of your router (the rest of what you wrote makes sense if you do, but it's as well to check these things) Something like 192.168.0.1?
If so, those instructions provided by the ISP drop your internet connection from your end and then tell your router to re-establish it. If the modem part of the router has lost the plot then this makes it start again from scratch and is the software equivalent of turning it off and back on again, at least that particular bit of what the router does.
The fact that you had to re-enter the broadband password is interesting as normally they are saved in the permanent memory of the router so you don't have to log into it and type it in every time you turn the power on, That said, the cheapo free router that I got with my internet connection did lose the password if it got disconnected too often. My phone line has a problem when it starts raining and my broadband drops for a minute or so. On one particularly stormy day after a couple of hours it wouldn't re-establish and I eventually found the router had crashed and erased the saved password. If it's something like a Thompson / Technicolor that you get free when you sign up, then they are built to a price (which is a very very low price) and when you poke into them in any depth it shows.
From your description, it's nothing to do with your ipad.
None of that helps with your problem as it remains unclear if the connection due is dropping due to the ISP and the router cannot re-establish it without some kind of reset, or the router is wobbly and dropping the connection then tying itself in knots. I'd live with it, or try a different ADSL modem router, but I have access to them as we have one or two old ones about the place at work so could swap one out as a test, which I appreciate most people don't.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

It is Technicolor, yes!

Hmm. When the problem on Wednesday happened, the adviser was telling me to type in the router password for a new router they sent me 18months ago, which I hadn't connected up, because by the time it had come, my internet connection had resumed. When I told him this he got me to change to the 'new' one anyway, which I did, filled in all the passwords, and bingo. This morning, when I lost the connection again, it was from the 'new' router, but I had remembered what he'd told me to do., hence putting in the passwords, etc.
What you've said makes sense, as occasionally, when there's very bad weather, I temporarily and intermittently lose connection, but that hasn't been too much of a problem.
Anyway, perhaps I should just monitor the situation and if it becomes a regular occurrence, I'll get back to Plusnet.
Thank you both!(I just lurve spiders!)

Not a good day. Only just got up.
I think I am going to give people a wide berth from now on. And just stick to my own company.
Why is that people say they are going to do something and don't. Someone said they would call me last night. So by 8pm I just know its not going to happen. As its something they often do. So text to ask how they are, No reply. At 9pm I text again saying I am off to bed soon. No reply. This person is well know for not replying to texts because they can't be arsed. So fired off a few home truths to them as I was now really !!!!ed off.
Turns out they went off to see there mum. Which is fine as she is not very well. But why did they not just text me to say off to see mum will phone you tomorrow. They seem to think its ok to phone, text and pop in and see me late at 9pm and gone
Maybe it is me. I don't know.

It isn't you, Calley, it's their bad manners.
Even if they forgot they'd said they'd ring you, your texts would have reminded them. All they had to do was, as you say, fire off a quick text saying they'd catch you tomorrow.
Just plain rude not to reply when it's obvious you were waiting for them to call. :A(I just lurve spiders!)

Classic excuse left the car in the phone. Its either that it at home or got no charge!!!!
They claim they were driving back when I tried to ring them. If I had left my phone in the car for a couple of hrs. I would check it when I got back in. So why not text me then!!!!
Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. As I said I am giving up on all people for the time being. And staying at home. Apart from going to the shops and being nice to assistants not bothering.
