This may sound silly Georgie but would your mum consider a budgie? Minimal care and almost no chance of injury to her and they can make really good companions. Milliefleur has one and wouldn't be without him. She got him as a baby and taught him to talk and he adores her. She leaves the cage door open for hours at a time and he comes and goes as he pleases, he can usually be found on her lap or shoulder or trying to steal her food. Everytime she talks he answers her even she isn't talking to him. He doesn't spend much time in the cage at all, just pops in to eat and sleep and is put in if she goes out or has visitors. Otherwise he follows Milliefleur around the house.
SDW, two of my medications, codeine and my anti-psychotic are used in Parkinson's treatment and if I forget them I get awful RLS. I am not sure whether I naturally suffer with it or if it's withdrawal but it happens without fail if I miss a dose. I sympathise totally, its horrid.
Well done, code! You did well!
Well, the builders are back. We have damp proofing specialists drilling into the actual brickwork. The noise is deafening and the house vibrates. This is possibly the worse yet.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

You're right, they do make very good companions WaS. Sounds like Milliefleur has a lovely relationship with hers!Unfortunately. My Mam freaks out at anything that flies and flits around! My Aunty and Uncle had them when I was little, and she refused to enter until they'd got it caged up again. She said it was because I was allergic to them, but tbh I don't think I ever was and it was more to do with her fear of them.
D had them when he was little. His favourite (Peter!) was let out of the cage by his brother, and someone had left the bathroom window open and it flew upstairs, never to be seen again.
Hope the builders aren't here from long and that this is the last of the work to be done.0 -
I used to have a budgie. We had her from a baby and was supposed to be a boy. Despite trying to handle her and letting her out for a fly about, she refused to fly and used to attack you if you came near her cage. I had to wear gloves to clean her cage and feed her. I still loved her though.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0

Eeeeek! Ok, not a bird then, Georgie! Hamsters also make really good pets but a lot of people view them as children's pets. They aren't at all, it takes a lot of work to make a hamster truly happy in its surroundings. I shall keep thinking on possible pets. Chinchilla's, maybe? They are adorable and ever so cuddly.
We had a lot of birds when I was little, code and also had one that was cage territorial and would attack if you came near. There is a horrid story behind why we had the birds which just shows what a disaster my mother was but I will save it for another time when the house isn't vibrating and it doesn't sound as if a pneumatic drill is in the next room!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

In a previous house, our next door neighbours had an outdoor aviary with budgies in it.
While we lived there, no less than 3 budgies arrived (literally) out of the blue and sat on the roof and were let in to join the others. So let's hope Peter made his way to a similar situation!Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.0 -
The internet problem I had yesterday appeared to happen again just now, in that the IP suddenly stopped responding. It came back after about 20minutes, though.
Just in case it's an ongoing problem, I just thought I'd let you know in case I 'disappear'. If I need a new router or something, it might take a couple of days or so to arrive.
Just spotted this. My connection was down for 5 days because Virgin have sold out to TalkTalk and they not only made a ***** of my access, my IT bloke tells me I'm their fourth Virgin customer with this problem in the last few weeks. Back on now (clearly;)), after six phone calls and much fairly basic (not that Basic;)) language on my part.
As soon as he comes back from his hols he's switching me to Plusnet which is a reet good Yorkshire firm:) With a reet good Yorkshire call centre.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Parakeets have now naturalised to the UK, even seen in Sheffield and Leeds.
But ........... I've had a thought, Rosy Faced Lovebirds are lush and happy to sit in their cage snuggled up to each other, downside is they can be a bit too much vocal......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
