    WaS, two things.......

Firstly, you probably haven't heard the news that's been on since. Well, if any good at all can come out of something so sad it is this........it has touched the whole world, and as a result, there has been an outpouring of help for the refugees, such as all the previous news bulletins never managed to do. Cameron has agreed to take far more than he previously said, as have other countries, plus there are loads and loads of supplies being sent out.
Of course that can't make amends, but it means that as a result, many more children will be saved. The people of many countries have made their governments sit up and take notice.

Secondly, is there a charity shop near you like Save the Children? If so, take all your spare bromeliads, duly potted up, for them to sell, (plus anything else you have surplus to requirements!)
The baby bromeliads didn't cost you anything, except some compost, but you spent time potting them up with love and care, so the sale of them will go to help children abroad in these bad situations. That way, you can do something for them.
Don't worry if it's a small thing. If 10,000 people do one small thing, it becomes a huge thing! :)

  • Thank you so much Pyxis. I haven't seen the news since so I had no idea. That is encouraging at least. WaSp said to me of all the new articles I had to come across it had to be that one, but I am glad that it was. I need to remember the awful things that people are going through and realise how lucky I am to live as I do, it could be so, so much worse and I feel very humble today. I want to save everyone but of course, I can't. I wish I had chosen a different career and didn't end up with this stupid mental illness so that I could have directly helped people, I want to be there personally and doing whatever I can. I feel to blame and like I have let people down because all I can do is sit here while they are suffering so much.

I will find something for my charity shop, that is such a great idea. I do think it will make me feel better to do something, however small. That has cheered me up a little, thank you.

  • *hugs for WaS* - I understand sweetie, I really struggle with the news at times as well. Things are starting to get better.

And you do help people, you created this safe space. You helped me to be brave enough to talk to my others. To identify what labels and services may be useful to me. All because you are so brave and so open about things.

TY Pyxis :o I just, my metamour is having a very rough year and just doesn't someone else to be fkd too. Oh well. I'm getting crazy sugar cravings, and am hormonal. Might send my flatmate to get ice cream or choc for me

  • Ice cream and chocolate sound like a good idea, Dragonette. I am sure your metamour cares a lot about you and was happy to be there for you, sometimes when we are having a bad time it can help us feel better to be there for someone else so it likely would have helped her, too.

Thank you for being so kind to me too. Even here, I feel like everyone fights so hard to feel better and improve things for themselves and I sit here doing what? Living each day like the last, dependent on society to support me and giving nothing back. What on earth is the point of me? I am so, so lucky to live how I do, I have done nothing to deserve it. So many people are so much pain in all different walks of life and struggling to get by and yet here I sit like a huge drain on everyone. Even in this post, all I am talking about is me, me, me. Others don't even have the chance to think that way because every day is fight for so many different reasons. Be it in war zones or struggling with day to day life, so many people have so much to cope with, things I can only imagine. Also, please don't take this too seriously, I am not very well right now but I will be fine again. My problems are minuscule compared to others.

I deeply admire and care for everyone on this thread, you are all an inspiration to me. I am in awe of how you all keep trying no matter how bad things get. I can only wish to be as strong as all of you are, I think the world of everyone here and you have all become my family.

Well, you know, WaS, that so many people on this thread have said how much you have helped them, and that's just the tip of the iceberg, because we know there are loads of hoverers who get a lot of benefit from this thread too!

Think of all those children you have helped in the past, including your American friend.
You pulled yourself out of a dreadful upbringing and home life to get yourself an education and some very worthwhile jobs. You paid taxes then, so you contributed to the help of people of benefits then. Don't feel guilty about needing benefits now! That's what the benefits are for!
You do a stupendous job of looking after yourself in very difficult circumstances......and look at how much progress you made this year!
You are keeping yourself out of hospital by strength of will!

So no saying you're useless, you're far from useless! This thread is one of the most useful threads in MSE! :)

WaSP, Millefleur and your teacher friend might also have something to say about what the point of you is, as well as the rest of us.
People don't have to be actively out there "doing" to be making a contribution to society. Being who you are and helping people to understand is a very constructive way of being useful. Although having said that you did do quite a lot of "doing" while you were still able to work.

Did anyone say out virtual escapee cake is calorie free? Waiting till after the shops have closed on the day of travel is not a good time to find I can't get into any of my shorts. Weight hasn't changed, but appears to have redistributed itself round my middle.

Calley, I'm impressed with your list of jobs, and now put somewhat to shame by the state of my place. (Although not quite enough to do something about it.)

    Tip of the iceberg :rotfl:

I am still in the throws of decorating the hallway so not really hoovered up. When my dad came down the other night to help with the plumbing job that was a waste of time really. he had to have a quip "see the cleaner not been in!"

I have done absolutely nothing today. Apart from an afternoon nap. Must get out of that habit too.

It's Sunday. Day of rest, and all that. If you can't have a lazy day in a Sunday, when can you?
