Well, about an hour or so ago the MIL phoned. I knew it'd be her when I heard D's office phone go off. He uses 'same time' to communicate with his colleagues, so if anyone phones, it's either one of his mates or the MIL.
The answers no. I knew it would be. I guess she knows her own limitations, and as she says, she goes into the next town from us and when she gets back she's knackered, her feet ache, her back aches, so she just doesn't feel she could manage it. We've told her once again the money's no problem (as she mentioned that too) and that we'd go at her pace, she wasn't holding us back or stopping us from doing anything, but no, she doesn't want to go.
I think deep down, even though she's said a few times she'd love to go, she likes the idea, but reality is a lot different.
It's a shame, but it also means we can now go earlier if we want, book the hotel room we want, and plan more things to do that we couldn't have done with MIL in tow. I guess her holiday is coming over to look after the cat! :rotfl: It gives her something to do and she stays over for the whole day because it gets her out of the house and she enjoys staying the whole day at our house because she feels comfortable here.0 -

I do wish we had one of those machines (as mentioned above) in our bank where you empty your coins into it and it goes straight into your account though. I think that would be very handy, instead of having to either count them or take them to the Supermarket where they charge you for the privelage.
This is something I'm really going to miss by switching banks. I can't be bothered to sit there, count and bag my coins to take to the bank. Much easier to chuck it into a machine and let the machine do it for me.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Oooh Georgie, how about making a Vegas at your house for her as a surprise for when she goes to look after the Cat, or invite her over one evening for a Vegas night?
You could dress up, decorate the house, get a cheap poker set or roulette wheel from a charity shop etc? Get someone to collect her in a posh car wearing a suit etc.0 -

Good idea Katy, but I've got the feeling DH has blown it out of proportion, in like she really would love to go to Vegas....but then in reality not so much. Kind of like Birdies FIL, says stuff but it doesn't really mean that she wants to go/do things.
She fell out with her BF over holiday arrangements, and then went with this woman she sort of knew (met her on the bus) and fell out with her as well, so it's maybe for the best! :rotfl:0 -
Elsien, I'd deffo go for a shorter (not full-length) cocktail dress, unless you know you'll definitely wear a long one again.
And if you can, do look in as many charity shops as you can. You might be surprised! If you do, also look at sizes one down and one up from your size, as sometimes the charity shops don't put them on the right hangers!
I follow the charity shop bargains thread and have just read about someone on there finding a black M&S cocktail dress worth £59 for £3!
You can get some excellent finds in the CS's!0 -

You have to make sure you take some spares with you to the bank, because there's usually one bag that's a coin short by mistake!

It might be an idea to give her a deadline for changing her mind, or just before you book hers, give her a chance to change her mind, then you'll know you've done all you could!Georgiegirl256 wrote: »I follow the charity shop bargains thread and have just read about someone on there finding a black M&S cocktail dress worth £59 for £3!

Does anyone else ever save up for something and then find they can't bring themselves to buy it...?

Do you know, I find it quite therapeutic counting coins! And seeing the piles multiply! Like a present-day Scrooge!

That's a good idea! And you could have a video of Vegas playing on the TV!

I love having a good ratch about in CS's! My Mam hates them, retches if she steps inside one, and hates the thought of having something someone else has used/worn.
She definitely won't change her mind (MIL), so we'll be booking in the next day or so I should think. Don't want to miss out on the good deal on flights.
I don't mind counting silver or pounds, but copper does my head in!0
