I hope MIL decides to go with you Georgie. It would be such a shame if she didn't! FIL is a bit like that though, he's spent his whole life moaning about wanting to do things and see the world etc but when presented with the opportunity he'll find a reason not to. He's 'always wanted' to do a parachute jump but when we and MIL offered to club together and pay for it he came up with a list of medical [strike]excuses[/strike] reasons not to. We all know it's baloney, but if it makes him feel better to act like it's out of his control rather than him being full of dreams but too scared to act on them then so be it. :)

Georgie, it would be a shame if she doesn't go. As you say, you've sorted out the practicalities of everything!

But maybe she does need time to mull it over.

I would suggest that you keep emphasising the point that
....... You really want her to go.
.......You don't want to go on your own, just you two.
.......You really want the pleasure of seeing her have a lovely holiday!
.......You don't want to spend the money on anything else!

Code..I'm sure the doc will be ok about it! It is a worry though, I'd be the same. After all, it's not like you're down there every month wanting more!

I loved Guardians of the Galaxy especially the bit at the end when baby groot dances around then stops before anyone can see him.

Surely a lodger has only a weeks notice and you should not be scared in your own house. Is there a community policeperson who could help?

What sort of scary is she, Joanthebone?
Is she just odd, or has she done anything to make you particularly fearful?

  • Morning everyone!

Sorry I missed the 10,000 posts party WW, well done!

Joan, a month isn't too long to wait now, focus on how gift it will be when she is gone. She may even end up going sooner?

Nesting has ground to a halt Melly. I had a burst of energy when I felt like I was actually achieving something, but now I just feel like baby is superglued in there. Not even made it out of bed yet today.
Bearded one thinks I am being impatient as we are still 9 days off due date, but I am uncomfortable and can feel my mood dipping. Long dog walks has always been a coping mechanism for me and I can't do that at the moment, and being stuck home alone is awful.

I agree with Pyxis on emphasising the reasons you want MIL to go away with you. She may feel bad about money, time etc so show her you have thought those things through. I'd also offer her a way of getting out of it too if she really didn't want to go must so she doesn't feel she has to admit she likes the idea but can't follow it through. Good luck!

Georgie - your mil sounds a lot like my mum. My dad always wanted to travel places and live abroad and my mum always had a reason why they couldn't, and now it's too late as his health isn't good enough. She wanted to go places too, or said she did, but whenever we suggested it, she always had an excuse - 'oh the kids need me, what about the dogs...' and so on until you got that while she liked the idea of it, the practice was too much for her to cope with. I've got my dad's love of travel and my mum's need to be in my comfort zone at all times, but I just ignore the latter and book stuff - then I have to go, no matter how scary!

I can relate to so many points in the above paragraph. My Dad absolutely loved travelling, loved checking it new places and exploring. My Mam on the other hand, totally different, a real home body, hates being away from home even for a night sometimes.my Dad would sometimes go away with his mates, but I know for sure it made him sad that he didn't get away more often because my Mam wouldn't go. I know in the last few years when he was starting to slow down, even then he was always looking at coach trips etc, but my Mam wouldn't go. I feel really sad that he never got to go on one more big holiday. :(

I'm like you code, a mixture of the two. Love going away, got my Dad's love of travel but also my Mam's homebody bug and so sometimes it's a wrangle between the two, because I love and feel comfortable in my home, but I love the whole aspect of travelling.

I hope so too Birdie :) Do you think your FIL would do it if you just booked him one of hose Red Letter Day things? Just drive him down to the airport lol! :rotfl:

All of the above we emphasised. Especially number 2 lol! I bet she was sitting there thinking "do you even like my son?" :rotfl:

Anyhow, we'll soon find out I guess. But considering she wouldn't even spend one night in a Windermere hotel, I'm guessing it'll be a no, but hey she might surprise us!

Code, I'm sure the doctors will be just fine :)

I highly doubt it, I'd probably end up doing it in his place! When we were all away on our wedding holiday a load of us went on a boat trip, one of his 'I always wanted to do this but never got to' things, and he spent the whole time staring at the horizon and concentrating on keeping his breakfast down! I think it well and truly put him off 'experiences'! :rotfl:

I love going away but I like to go to places that I'm familiar with as I hate feeling lost in a strange place! :o Whenever we go somewhere new we take a good few days to get our bearings then we spend the last days planning our next visit because we'll know what we're doing then! :o

Keep showing her pictures of Vegas! :D

Ooh! Just a thought! Is there going to be a show on, with any of her favourite singers topping the bill?
    That might tip the balance!
