Why are you in a tent in a field, JM? Is it a gig?

Sort of, yes. We all camp, and play inside in a very drafty barn. Doing another opera this weekend, and more again next weekend. :)

Right. Spent an hour doing some small jobs to try and finish off the decorating

Sanded the bare plaster down a bit, filled some holes and and then scraped the plaster my darling brother and his mate got everywhere off the skirting board!!!

If annoyed my neighbour so be it ;)

Might be able to get some paint on there later Yeah!!!!!

    Yours

Excuse me, (and i apologise in advance) but i need a rant.

I really really hate the fact people look down on me for doing the job i do (and that the company i work for seems to have the stigma of being a job that only school drop outs do). Yes i have a degree. No my job does not require one, but so !!!!ing what? if i'd done a different degree maybe i'd have had some amazingly well paid job but even then i probably wouldn't have been able to cope with the stress that comes with such jobs so i'd still be in the same situation. For starters yes i work in retail, but i actually get paid ABOVE minimum wage. I work my !!! off despite having MH problems that have left me unable to work previously. With that in mind i am goddamn proud of myself for being able to cope when at times it can be extremly busy and quite stressful. My company have bent over backwards to support me in staying in work and i hate seeing them get a bad rep as they've been so good to me. On another thread someone gave my workplace as an example of what a mother wouldn't be proud of her daughter doing, well guess what, my mum is actually VERY proud of me for the job i do and the fact that despite everything i've stuck it out for 2 years and work damn hard to keep it that way.

It just annoys me that certain areas are looked down on by people. The people i work with generally work their asses off and at management level its actually very good money and something i hope to aim for myself one day.

    *and breathe*

Oh MessedUp I can see why you're cross, you're right to be, that thread made me angry too. I honestly don't think that people do look down on shop staff, I really don't. It's just the odd idiot. So many of us work in shops/clean loos and bums etc or have done in the past / will do again. We work hard and work when we can, that is the only thing that matters.

That snooty poster has been lucky so far and has had good mental health. That isn't guaranteed for life and they may find one day they have a problem. Then they'll realise that they are nowhere near as strong and determined as you. They might become a bit nicer. Kindness is what really, really matters in a person.

I've just been reading that too MU, and like you, I'm now  I've always said, everyone should work in retail for a week, and then they'd never slag retail workers off again, and they'd have a new found respect left for the work we do, and what we have to put up with.

Our boss was great though, he wouldn't put up with any sh*t, and in turn that rubbed off on all us staff. If you want to learn how to handle yourself and stand up for yourself, work in retail! :rotfl:

One of my ex bosses had had enough of the slog of retail management and working the extra hours unpaid that at one point he seriously considered leaving to become a dustman! That used to be (and maybe still is?) a much looked down on job, but as he pointed out, he'd start early and be finished early afternoon, and best of all no weekends and no pressure!

A job is what you make it, and I wonder how many of those with a university education nowadays actually are working in their chosen field?

I didn't realise that you worked in Gregg's MU. That is a very important job, if there wasn't a Gregg's, how would be then get our steak bakes and tuna crunch sandwiches? :p

    Hello everyone,

Sorry I feel like I've intruded on this thread. I've been reading from afar for a while. I've had long term problems with depression.

    Now I will slink away..

Welcome to the thread sofarbehind, chocolate hobnobs are always welcome (come into the blanket fort!)!

Thank you for understanding and your support. I'm glad its not just me who got a little ticked off by it all. I was worried i was overreacting but it really annoyed me!

georgiegirl, i tried a steak bake for the first time today (i know i know, 2 years on the job and it's taken me this long) and oh my god it was delicious! previously the only pasty i'd had was sausage cheese and bean!
