  • That makes sense to me, Melly! My friends default option was always what was the benefit for her in something before she did it? It wasn't selfish as such, she just had no emotional reason to do something otherwise. Well done at working not to do it, it must be really difficult when you naturally lean in that direction. I also think you are quite empathic, in a strange way my friend could be but not through feeling. She would closely watch how others reacted to situations and could presume causes and what came next through doing that instead. Which meant she was very good at manipulating people if she needed to.

Hey Calley - I had a look for the Lidl cutter but can't find it so not sure. I did look at the aldi lopers myself after you mentioned them, but decided against them as the brand, gardenline, is a cheaper end brand - you have to remember tho that I am a total tool snob and really only buy professional grade tools ( think of it as my "shoes") so whereas everyone else might be happy with a drill from homebase for 40-60 quid - I save up and buy a construction grade £200 one (there is a logic to my madness btw - the professional ones are designed to be used repeatedly and so have a tendency to last a lifetime ish - whereas "DIY" tools are for occasional light use.

For the lopers I would say they key things area a) the power/wattage and how thick branches they will cut and b) how heavy they are to use bearing in mind you are going to be holding your arms up to use them(as that affects how comfortable you are using them.)

We have a fabulous leaf shredder/blower thingy inherited from granddad but it is so heavy I cannot use it - lord knows how little old granddad used it.

You seem like a gardeny person - thus it might be wiser to invest in better garden tools - I think the aldi ones were £60 right - so I would say - have a look about and see what you could get if you added another £30/£40 to that?

And one final word - don't over think it too much - you saw something you liked and that would make your life easier and you treated yourself - meh if there was a slightly better deal! I sometimes screw myself up in knots trying to research and calculate the best options and can't make a decision anyway - then realise if I had just bought or gone with first option - job would have been done weeks ago!!!

I have seen a long reach chainsaw I like - BIG GRIN - always wanted a chainsaw!!!! ( We have big and unmanaged trees behind our garden so would be handy) Will have to start saving again!

    Good morning Team WaS.

MU - you're making me feel old. I was a Brownie when we still had the old brown dress with the belt and brown hat and yellow toggle. I was a pixie but I really wanted to be a Kelpie. My brownie troop was a bit halfassed though. Not sure if it was because it was a poor area or there just weren't enough of us (I only had 3 in my six) but for our cooking badge we went round someone's house and made them tea and toast.

  • I was a Pixie too, we didn't have Kelpies haha, they sound fun! I had a brown dress and a woolly hat too :)

I remember my time at Brownies and Guides so fondly, at Guides we often went on trips with the Scouts to do things like rock climbing, but I do wish they'd take religion out of it :/

I was a refusenik brownie. Didn't like my six, so kept taking myself off to the six my best friend was in.
I also got very miffed that my brothers who were cubs went camping and they wouldn't take us because they said girls weren't allowed to sleep out under canvas. I pleaded with them to let me be a cub instead, but to no avail. No one would have noticed because I was such a tomboy that at that age most people already thought I was a boy.

    Morning my Lovelies,

Thanks for that flybaby. I do that as well over think things like purchases LOL!!! I should only need to use to a few times a year just to keep my cherry tree in check and my husbands trees in check. i think mains power is better than rechargeable. But already sliced my finger on the box while in the shop. So I feel a limb will be lost at some stage :rotfl:

Pyxis what are going to do with you. Think we need to put you in some bubble wrap LOL!!!!

I am sorry today guys but today is going to be a very down carp day. I weighed myself and put on 5lbs so far and thats with the running.

I think lack of sleep as a major factor. But after last night and the parking issue. I am just to tired now. Not sure why I bother with anything. Woke up in tears this morning would have

    Mini Penguin-could be a trigger

Preferred not to wake up at all. Don't worry I am not going to do any thing silly i do promise.

    Penguin end

Not sure why I am even bothering with the garden or the house. As its only me that sees it. Not got any friends in real life. I am fed with have been the responsible adult since my husband had his stroke. nearly 9 years and I am so worn out. I hoped to have by now found someone to share the burden with and help me out when needed. Nope found a man child who can't cope with life and keeps running away and hurt and broke me.

My back is playing me up again. Due to the work in the garden. And I don't want to bother again with anyone re: relationships. No point as I will come off the worst. Always do.

Its dull and grey here today. So a perfect day to work in the garden.

I might have a good mope and then think about getting dressed and going out in to the garden to tackle the roots of doom :rotfl::rotfl:

Where I live use to be an old RAF base and some of the names of the roads are named after old planes and famous WWII pilots.

I do think one day I will dig up a plane or worse :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Yours

My mum was a Pixie :D

That was back in the day when the uniforms were actually brown (and made her look as she affectionaly says, "like a bag of spuds" :rotfl: )

Aren't they brown any more? What a shame! Brownies should be brown! Grrrr!

Have you tried singing a song with a story and acting the feeling of the song, with gestures?
I mean this, as sometimes acting an emotion enables you to feel it, and singing it is even better!
It doesn't matter what you sound like!
A happyish song would be best, although invoking any emotion is good.

I remember Stephen Fry once said he relished being bipolar because the highs were so fantastic and made up for the lows, bad though the lows were.
I'm not bipolar but I do have quite wide mood swings, and I must admit, I'd hate to be a flat-liner. A lot of feeling does make you feel so alive!

Calley - try not to be too down about the weight gain. Bear in mind that by running you are building the muscles in your thighs and those are big muscles. Muscle weighs more than fat. Iirc I didn't see a significant difference until week 4 when it suddenly showed. I feel your pain though - aside from the Chinese last night, which wasn't so bad as it was all I'd eaten yesterday, I have been good all week. I weigh the same as I did in the middle of last week and I seem to have gone back up a jean size. No idea what happened there.

I think brownies are yellow now Pyxis.

I love Stephen Fry. I've read his autobiographies and felt so sad for him because he really doesn't like himself.

Today hasn't been good so far and I'm not even at work. Woke up to no hot water so repressurised the boiler. By the time it came to get ready, still no hot water and I really needed to wash my hair. I'd better have super shiny hair today because that shower was ice cold.

Then I took DA dog out and we met a weimaraner dog. For some reason weimaraners really love DA dog so it was very excited to see him. We parted ways - her and her human went one way and DA dog and me went into the woods. We'd walked about 5 minutes when I heard a noise behind me, turned to look and got full force weimaraner slammed against my legs just about my knees, which buckled. Then she ran off again. Owners didn't even come and apologise.

And I've lost 2 of my false nails. I put them on because it's the best way for me to grow my nails without biting them. I am going to look really odd all day now.

Sorry you fell on the stairs Pyxis. Hugs.

Here is the regular etiquette repost...
    Pyxis wrote: »
The thread etiquette will be reposted every ten or so pages.
    ........:starmod:......................................................................:starmod:.....................
Here is the suggested THREAD ETIQUETTE. By following this etiquette, all posters, whether new or existing, will feel safe, unpressured and respected..

    - This is a thread for support. We have discovered some good friends on here, but we promise always to welcome and include new people, and not to be cliquey.

    - People may make suggestions to help each other, and might even ask if the suggestions were helpful or have been carried out, but we'll really try not to nag each other or put too much pressure on.

    - The normal board rules about sexism, racism, homophobia etc. apply, but if we are careful we should be able to discuss almost anything without breaching board rules - so far we have discussed subjects ranging from child abuse to incontinence!

-If someone thinks that too much pressure is being applied, they can post the trigger word PENGUIN and flag up the fact that they believe there's a potential for someone feeling too nagged to do something. ANYONE could post PENGUIN if they felt there was a danger that suggestions were being enforced too much.

Similarly, if they want to discuss something that might be a trigger for some people, then posting PENGUIN would be a warning that what follows in the whiteout might be a trigger.

    - So, if you think something might be a PENGUIN, please post something like the green bit which follows.

"Possible penguin about.........(type of trigger)" The trigger might be:- child abuse, marital abuse/violence, paranoia, stalkers, death, etc.

Then, when you post, repost the word PENGUIN above the discussion. Then post the penguiny bit in white! And the phrase END OF PENGUIN when you have finished.

It will look like this. You will be able to see the white text if you highlight it or if you quote it, (so please don't 'quote' a post containing a penguin onto the thread!)
    (Harmless example follows here):-
    PENGUIN

This is a penguin. A nasty, crotch biting penguin (CBP).
It isn't really! So you can look
    . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozGTv0hxhpc[/url]

    END OF PENGUIN

(NB on a tenth-page repost of the etiquette, you can see these penguiny words because they are white against the green 'quote' background. On a normal post, they will be white against white, and so won't be seen on the thread.)

IMPORTANT: It has been ascertained that some posters to this thread have found that there are certain subjects which act as triggers, precipitating a worsening of their condition.
To protect these posters, you are respectfully requested NOT to discuss these subjects on this thread:-

Religion. (Please note: it is recognised that everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and we respect those beliefs. It is only because of the fact that religion does act as a trigger for some posters, that we exclude it from discussion.)
N.B. Please don't even mention the name of the religion.

The afterlife. The reason for this is explained in this thread by one poster, and there will be others for whom this is a trigger.

We ask and thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

    .........:starmod:.....................................................................:starmod:................

!!!******It should be pointed out that if anyone is feeling very distressed or close to a crisis, they do not have to worry about what they are posting, or whether it is a penguin for someone else or not. In a crisis situation, just post! We wouldn't want anyone to feel that they couldn't ask for help in case it's a penguin! The penguin thing only applies to a general discussion situation.******

    - More suggestions please.............We stress that we are suggesting that we AGREE some Thread Etiquette to HELP people who might feel anxious about posting, we are not trying to IMPOSE rules, just relating this to facilitating groups, so that people feel safe and able to participate as fully as they can.
