But.....you like Sir Pugliet, so that's ok!
To be honest, I much prefer other types of dogs, too! However, part of my concern re. Pugs is to do with the health issues they have from the breeding to get that 'look'.(I just lurve spiders!)

Those trousers always sound beautiful, Melly. I love patterned trousers!
Fingernails, the bane of my life! Anyone know what to do with ridiculously breakable nails? I bit my nails for around 35 years and stopped 2 years ago. Since then they just snap if they grow over the top of my finger in the slightest. I tried nail hardener but that just made them more brittle. They also flake, only my thumb nail doesn't. Have I ruined them for life after years of biting? The sad thing is I really miss biting them, I may as well just do it if this is the way it will always be.
Other than that I have been trying to teach my american friend to cook. Her mother always gave her children the latest faddy diet foods and wouldn't let them cook (which made of all the children medically malnourished but that's another story) and when the family split my friend stayed with her dad to help bring up her brother and they just buy ready meals. She has never had a healthy diet since being a child and isn't in the habit of doing so if that makes sense? Her poor dad picked up Hepatitis B from work (a needle went through his glove, he's a nurse) and he is about to undergo a long treatment which may remove it/suppress it but will be very painful and debilitating. He will need personal care at times and good, healthy food with limited salt, fats and additives (the pills will put even more strain on his liver and kidneys) and neither of them know where to start. I am not quite sure myself but I am trying to help. Learning to cook can be overwhelming at first, nevermind a specialist diet.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

WaS,
weezl et al's meal plan from Asda, website would be a very good start as all nutritionally balanced, but I can't find the link at the moment.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Oooh, that's an idea whitewing! Thank you! It isn't as bad as it could be because her dad has been given a years fully paid sabbatical to try the treatment and they are relatively comfortably off (despite there being 7 children in total! Her dad was such a good nurse that he was quickly promoted and is now a nursing manager dealing with patient complaints), so they can afford things like organic if that would help. It's just that neither of them know the first thing about cooking, her dad can cook Dahl and that's about it and my friend's limit is cheese on toast or rice! The difficulty is it has to be low fat and low salt, but the medication will make him lose weight so it has to be heavy on calories, too and as healthy as it can possibly be with lots of vitamins and minerals.
They will likely give him a diet sheet when he starts the treatment but that isn't a lot of good if neither of them can cook from it! They need to start learning the basics now. They can only experiment at weekends really, right now both are working full time and my friend is also taking her Masters as well as helping with her 13 year old brother but she will go to part time in January. They need to be ready by then and she is the one who needs to learn how to cook because her dad likely won't be capable after a couple of months.
I admire all three of them for this. Her dad for being brave enough to try it, it involves very strong medication, is a relatively new treatment and he knows that he is going to feel awful, the symptoms are apparently similar to constant chemotherapy. The treatment lasts for 8 months and it will take a few months longer to recover from it but if it works he will feel so much better and have full life expectancy. Her little brother was asked if he minded because it will likely mean he has to be quiet and days out will be a lot less but he said he just wants his dad to be better. Finally, I really admire my friend for being willing to put her Masters on hold and work part time. She will be caring for her dad, doing most household things and bringing up her brother. She didn't think twice about doing it to help her dad. I am proud to be friends with them all.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

WaS - for fingernails, I found massaging a drop of olive oil into each one once a day made them stronger
