A few years ago my SIL and I went along to a cheerleading group as it had been advertised as an open to all exercise class at the leisure centre so we thought, 'Great, do some cheers, have a dance, shake pompoms, fun!' but it was a proper squad, they just warmed up on their own without telling us what to do, they looked at me and said that I looked sturdy enough to be a 'catcher' and my SIL got picked up and thrown about before even checking that either of us were actually capable of doing these things and they didn't even have pompoms! The whole thing was a massive let down and a waste of 90 minutes of my life!
Oh no!! When people get in touch I'm always really honest about what we do, that we are allstar and competitive, and I always have a picture of a pyramid in our adverts! And I follow strict progressions reagarding stunts!codemonkey wrote: »The only thing with it, is that you're not supposed to do it if you've had an ED because the 'clean' feeling when you go without food for a day is a bit addictive.
Pants. I still occasionally struggle with bulimia so maybe not a good idea. I will discuss with the doctor tomorrow

I don't want to put anyone off the 5:2 thing because I felt great when I was doing it. It's kind of fun deciding where to 'spend' your 500 calories (if I have soup and leave butter off my sandwich and use low fat cheese spread instead then I can have half a caramel rice cake :rotfl:) and then you get the day off the next day where you can munch guilt free. The only reason I'm not doing it now is because I need to take painkillers and don't want to destroy my stomach any more than necessary.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0

I really don't think you should have half a caramel rice cake!
THe thing is, that would work brilliantly for the losing weight part, but screws up the blood sugar benefits part. The earlier editions of the book said things like banana for breakfast, but I think now the reprints really stress that for max benefits you don't eat sugar (or anything that fools your body into thinking it's sugar, cos that gets your insulin production going). That sounds really fierce, doesn't it? But honestly, it's survivable for a day - and it's lovely thinking about what you are going to eat tomorrow, IYSWIM.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Oh JM, you just took the fun out of it :rotfl:
Good point though.

A random jotting.
I have always wanted a glass cake dome. So bought one. And put it on the kitchen table with my apples in it. Reminds me they are there and to eat them.
A friend came round the other day and said "you got fruit in and no one is ill" Any one think this a strange thing for a person to say.
I think its bizarre, the person is a bloke, 50ish, now lives alone and eats ready meals. Does not cook for himself from what I can gather.

I hope you've got some a Chesney Hawkes in there code?He was on A League of their Own the other day singing 'I am the one and only', and I was like "I love that song!" :rotfl:

I don't think it's bizarre as such. I think years back before the 5 a day thing some people probably only did buy fruit if someone was ill! I remember when my grandparents were ill at various times, they were inundated with fruit baskets! :rotfl:0 -
As we where talking about ED's early.
just had a link to this article pop in to my inbox. Its about food addiction. It seems there are 8 symptoms for it as well!!!!
And I reckon I can say yes to all 8 of them

I have only read enough of that article to know I tick all 8 too (at times in my life).
Which reminds me, my current weight loss seems to be working a lot due to drinking plenty of water. I have a drinks bottle with a handle that travels everywhere with me. If my water intake is good, then the cravings for sweet, fatty stuff are much reduced.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I don't drink enough. And I am not keen on plain water so it's normally squash I drink.

I can see that for people who overeat, but the discussion was also about anorexia, so that implies other mechanisms as well? May have to google, but then I get bogged down in either scientific papers or pseudo-science, and generally end up none the wiser.
Edit - you know dogs are meant to be de-stressers? I've been talked into taking Gitdog to be part of a display for a dogs trust fundraiser. Ask me how destressed I feel after the event.:rotfl:
Gitdog at a display? I gotta be there! :rotfl:
Seriously, perhaps he could be the 'before' dog, with the others being the 'after'! :rotfl:
Anyway, he's bound to draw laughs, which is no bad thing! He's the canine equivalent of Donald O'Connor! ("Make 'em laugh! Make 'em laugh!)heartbreak_star wrote: »
I do fancy trying the 5:2 diet though - Pyxis, I think you do that? What do you eat on fast days? Does it matter that I train ALL the time - can you exercise on fast days?
HBS x
I leave my 500 calories as late as possible. I find it acts as an appetiser, so if I eat too early, I become ravenous. You don't have to have the full 500calories, or any at all! Also, I find the looking forward to the 'meal' is nice. And if I do get ravenous, I keep telling myself that I can eat what I like tomorrow. I find that I very rarely wake up the next day ravenous, and knowing I can eat means that often I'll leave eating until lunchtime!
On fast days I eat loads of veg, exc. potatoes and rice, and meticulously count their calories. Bread bumps it up, so I leave that out. Trouble is, oil can make it go through the roof, so I tend to stir fry the veg with a tiny amount of pasta sauce to enable it to cook and give it flavour, or else I dry-roast peppers, which then caramelise a bit and are flavoursome.
Some fast days I will only have oranges!
I drink loads of green tea, no milk, which I do anyway.
Yes exercise is fine! In fact that book says that exercising before eating actual increases your metabolism more than if you have already eaten and then exercise. So even on eating days, I usually do my Zumba class before I have anything to eat.
You really enjoy food, too! And you enjoy food you might not normally eat, like a plateful of just cabbage, because it's sooooo nice to be able to eat a whole plateful of something!
Now, I have relapses, of course! My worst one was when I was ill a lot earlier this year, and was in bed a lot, but still eating, and not doing proper fast days. And I got back in the habit of eating loads. And loads of a specific cake and dessert, I mean loads, because I craved it, over a period of weeks! Needless to say, I put weight on. But, when I restarted the 5:2 properly, it started coming off again, but more importantly, I gradually lost those cravings. (I have to be careful, as they can easily come back! The depression really didn't help!)It's interesting to see how many MH issues are being found to have physical causes and changes associated. My response to that is quite jumbled.
I like the idea that it places the "blame" elsewhere, but in a way I feel dis-empowered by it.
Don't be. There's still the element of choice. For example, you might not feel at all full, despite having eaten a proper meal, but reason tells you that you have had sufficient nutrients. So there is still the choice of carrying on eating or not.(I just lurve spiders!)
