Tell me you live near me? I'm coming with you! :rotfl: :D There's just something about firemen!

We had a grand opening of our new look store after it had been refitted, and the manager invited loads of different people for entertainment....including firemen! Now, it was for the kids really, but me being me asked one of the friendly firemen if I could have a go in his fire engine! I sat in their for about 1/2 hour, 'twas very cool! :D

Did he let you play with his hose? :o

I did my degree as a mature student, and the other older person on my course was a fireman. He was definitely in the hunky fireman category. We often studied together, and it was a great bonus.

I wonder why male fire fighters seem to be good looking as well as physically fit and heroic? Is there some sort of selection bias at interview?

Code, I forgot to say thank you for the post regarding issues with weight/food. I am so sorry you have been through that.

I'm gently slipping back into my own issues with food so am back to the docs soon.

I do fancy trying the 5:2 diet though - Pyxis, I think you do that? What do you eat on fast days? Does it matter that I train ALL the time - can you exercise on fast days? :)

I think Pyxis is the other fan of 5:2 besides me. I eat what is affectionately called 'cat food' in this house. Most people have a small brekkie (something v low cal) and an evening meal. I don't eat at all until the evening (I confess I 'cheat' by having tea with a splash of milk during the day) then have a low cal ready meal. Cat food is something like this http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=262331092, or a slightly more healthy alternative is something like this http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=288516871

And you can have SOME fruits unlimited - strawberries spring to mind. But not just any fruit or you lose all the blood sugar benefits.

Yes, it's fine to exercise. People have done 5:2 while doing Olympic training, apparently! I really would recommend reading the book before you start, so you know what you are doing - and, more important, what the diet is doing for you!

    Thank you JM!

I have to be a bit careful as I'm allergic to nuts and mushrooms, and unfortunately I hate most veg :( but I'm sure I can manage!

    Right my lovelies,

That was a waste of a night about 4 and half hours sleep. Nearly got up and did housework at 2am:eek: Its ok my neighbour is away. I am on the end of a terrace. So only one side to think about. Mind she comes in after 10pm and thinks ok to bang about LOL!!!

Was up at 8am I know I know. Anyway t-towels on for washing. Been cleaning the kitchen. Yes its bad and needs doing. I don't like to admit this but there was two items that there have been left on the side and need washing up from about two and half weeks ago. They only had a few dry bits on them. So not really dirty.

Wiped all the tops down and still a small amount of washing up to be done.

I am posh at have table clothes so changed those. Not that I sit to the kitchen table very often to eat a meal. I even have cloth napkins. I know hark at her :rotfl:

Wiped my leather sofa over. And going to hoover and dust.

And I had the breakfast of champions a fab ice lolly :T

Anyway I suppose better get and hoover and dust as it will not do it's self. I ought to be more on top of it. As I have someone who invites themself over. Like last night. You in? Nope. Be there in 10 mins. Nope I am not in!!!!

And I was not. Normally I would apologise and feel guilty and go home but not last night. I was out at my husbands with no car and I was not rushing home. After there last text to say don't worry now. I did not reply Ha ha ha.

    They will learn.

    Yours

I bought some toy ones last summer from a cheap shop 'for DS's sensory basket'... I love them! :p

A few years ago my SIL and I went along to a cheerleading group as it had been advertised as an open to all exercise class at the leisure centre so we thought, 'Great, do some cheers, have a dance, shake pompoms, fun!' but it was a proper squad, they just warmed up on their own without telling us what to do, they looked at me and said that I looked sturdy enough to be a 'catcher' and my SIL got picked up and thrown about before even checking that either of us were actually capable of doing these things and they didn't even have pompoms! The whole thing was a massive let down and a waste of 90 minutes of my life! :(

Thanks for your post Code, must have been difficult to get it all down and well done for fighting on! :) Try not to worry too much about the money stuff too, have you done a recent SOA to see if/where you can cut back?

I fancy doing 5:2 too, think I need to shock my body a little as I don't eat tooooooooo badly (apart from the odd 'can't stop shovelling chocolate into my mouth' moments :o) but my weight is pretty consistent no matter what I do and I've just entered a 4 week weight loss competition at work so need to get some lbs shifted! :o

Thanks all for your help last night. Don't know what I'd do without you guys.

We're actually doing ok financially - no debts other than our mortgage, money to go on holidays, any left at the end of the month in savings and DH has a salary sacrifice saving type thingy at work which we use for special holidays and house repairs, we can afford food and some luxuries and we can afford to give DA dog a good life. And I do have an emergency fund which I suppose is for stuff like this. I've always been a bit of a worrier about money because I used to really struggle.

When I first left home, (my dad pretty much let me know I wasn't welcome anymore - we're friends now though) I was working in catering in a rubbish job which didn't pay much and didn't have much in the way of a meal allowance. My mum always told me to keep the roof over my head first then budget for everything else, but after rent and bills I had about £7 a week left for everything else, including food so it was really tight (thank god for value baked beans which were about 9p at the time and value bread). It was brilliant when the restaurant around the corner advertised for bar staff because I saved transport costs and got staff meals which was a life saver. Also, the food in there was amazing, so you'd get a massive pizza or plate of pasta and could drink as much juice as you wanted, whereas in the last place, you were allowed a buttered (read margarined) roll and a small juice and that was it.

Then uni again for my masters and all the financial pressures that went along with that - ended up with a credit card bill and massive overdraft, even though I worked all the way through. Me and my flatmates would take turns to call phone banking in the middle of the night to check we had enough money for the rent and to eat.

So when I started working and actually earning decent money, I managed to scrimp and pay all that off and felt such a sense of achievement and swore I'd never go back there. So whenever a big bill hits, I panic assuming I have no money to deal with it, because at one point, I didn't.

As for the 5:2 thing, when I was doing it, I found that my body did better if I saved my 500 calories for dinner because if I split it up, I'd end up ravenous, whereas if I don't eat, I don't feel that hungry. The only thing with it, is that you're not supposed to do it if you've had an ED because the 'clean' feeling when you go without food for a day is a bit addictive.

Working from home today and the neighbours must hate me because I'm streaming a cheesy 90s playlist. I normally listen to rock and metal or folky stuff but sometimes I just need a bit of cheese from my youth.
