Sorry Melly, that's all a bit English as a foreign language to me.
I may have missed it, but did you manage to get your hospital appt sorted/brought forward in the end?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Georgie - how about wearing some out-there shoes like Irregular Choice?!
I'm a lover of hats and fascinators so jump at the chance to wear one but again, how about getting a slightly alternative one?! I like a fascinator at a wedding because it finishes off a special outfit, but there are no rules that it must be a bunch of feathers!
I can't remember, but is your MIL the mother of the groom?Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Georgie, what sort of relative is this wedding for?
If it's someone close to Mil, I can understand her getting jittery about what she should wear, but not sure why she's inflicting that on you.
Does she feel inferior to the other family, whoever they are? Because they have more money?
In my mind, the main criterion for what you wear at a wedding is that you have made an effort. If that effort is buying a new 50s style dress and polishing up the Docs until they gleam, then that's ok. Turning up in your everyday jeans and t-shirt wouldn't be ok.
A fascinator might be fine for her, but may not be for you.
Perhaps she needs reassuring that neither she nor her side if the family will be judged. She sounds very insecure, so maybe needs loads of TLC.(I just lurve spiders!)

It's DH's oldest brothers daughter, so it's the mil granddaughter.
Irregular Choice shoes are awesome aren't they? I think I'm sorted with the shoes though tbh, and in my hair I'll wear the butterfly clip I wore at my own wedding maybe. I just meant that if I wear quite a girly dress (which hardly ever happens!) I usually like to wear docs/chunky boots with it to tone down the girly ness :rotfl: I'm going to have a look through those IC shoes though, just incase something jumps out at me that I like better than my own shoes!
I like alternative unusual things, but some of those fascinatiors are abit wacky aren't they?!0 -
I saw these!
Yellow!
And pandering to all tastes!(I just lurve spiders!)

You know that and I know that (regarding 4th paragraph), but try telling her that! But yeah, I can understand why she's getting all worked up about it bless her.
Tbh, i wouldn't have a clue about the other family, never met them, just the groom, and he seemed a bit of a lad (like you'd get on Jeremy Kyle  ), so I don't think she's got anything to be worried about.
I think it's just the grand scale of it all that's getting to her. I'm going to order her some dresses online tonight what I think will suit her and I can send them back if they're not right.0 -
Could have put money on you picking out those shoes Pyxis! :rotfl:

And I like this Headband!
I'll have to delete it in a min as it's stretching the thread!(I just lurve spiders!)

I think the trick with MIL is to give her plenty of help and attention in the run-up to help her feel confident in her choice of clothes (if I was local I'd totally help pick an outfit, I loooooove shopping for other people and if it paid well enough, I'd quit my job to be a personal shopper!) and maybe on the day book in for you both to have your hair (and maybe make-up?) done so she feels great.
ETA: That headband is awesome Pyxis! We're away (in Orlando) for Hallowe'en and that would be pretty cool to wear on the day!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0
