JM - I loved that episode too. I really like Sheldon and Amy's relationship and the blanket fort was so cool.

    I am in pain tonight.

ETA: Don't know why I'm sharing that really.

Please can you people help me.

If I lose 2 kg I am lighter than DH has ever known me (11 years).

If I lose 7 kg then I am lighter than DH. (DH says he is within bmi but his tummy weight needs to shift to his chest and biceps).

So I have got short and medium term targets that are sensible and that would lift me.

I had a discussion with a professional the other day and decided that the most effective exercise for me right now would be 30 mins a day of walking, preferably outside but I do have my treadmill too. (This takes into account current weight, working pattern, family and all the other 'blockers'). I also have my exercise class once a week.

DH mostly does the cooking. We are doing okay but there is room for improvement. He made a lovely Japanese chicken noodle meal last night.

I am drinking lots of water.

I am watching/listening/reading about exercise and martial arts and it all seems achievable for me.

So why, this morning, did it take me an hour to get off my backside and onto the treadmill? And why did I note every single discomfort during those 30 minutes? I think a lot was frustration - no sooner did I get on the treadmill than I had to get off to untangle DD's balloon, then take my clothes off as I was too hot, take the headphones off so I could answer DD's questions about why I was naked (too hot), whether I would put my clothes on if daddy came in (no) or DS came in (yes) etc etc.

I have a constant stream of negative thoughts, and I loathe my body for not changing quickly enough. As if the fat will melt away just because I want it to. (And I am lucky as I don't have pain or anything to contend with).

Can you lot help me have a list of specific, positive comments that I can tell myself through my day to encourage me to move more (ideally to actually move without having to think about doing it first).

I do my runs first thing in the morning. So I spend the night before when I go to bed firmly telling myself that when the alarm goes off I will get straight up and go out. If I don't do that, the alarm goes off and I spend an hour dithering then end up not going.
Is there a time of day that is best for you? It's also meant to be easier if you chain the activity to something else you already do so it becomes more automatic. For me, the more wriggle room I have with timings, the less likely it is to actually happen.
Of course it helps if you enjoy the activity rather than it being another chore to add to the list. Do you like the treadmill or is it something you do through gritted teeth?

I actually like all forms of exercise. It is only the 'me' element that gets in the way ie that I am too fat, too ugly (I know, nothing to do with exercise), too lazy, too off-balance etc etc etc.

For quite a while, I have not been able to control my weight, I am now at my heaviest, I tell no-one, including my husband, how much I weigh.

I just want to eat all the time. Not necessarily because I am hungry. I just 'want' to eat.

Now whilst looking for something else on the internet I came across an uncommon but well-documented side effect of dopamine agonists. I take these in a low dose for Restless Legs Syndrome. One of the side -effects is overeating!

I feel pretty sure it is this making me want to eat all the time. I eat secretly and hide food occasionally. I'm beginning to think I may have a type of eating disorder caused by this medication.

The first post in this link details exactly how I feel (although the author takes ropinirole for Parkinson's Disease, not RLS. The same drug is used, but in a lower dose, fro RLS. I take Requip (ropinirole) either 2 or 3 mg a day depending on hew bad my legs are).

    http://forum.parkinson.org/index.php?/topic/9206-ropinirole-and-compulsive-eatingwhat-to-do/

    I get sleepy too.

I don't want to stop taking the medication because my life will be unbearable, I won't be able to sleep, sit down for very long, watch the TV because I will have to keep moving around. But I am going to ask the Doc if he has any non-dopamine that might help. (However, i don't think there are - I've tried others, they work for a week or two and that is all.)

Other than that, I need to manage my compulsion and try not to give into it.

Please hold me in your thoughts and also any advice welcomed).

Would a good time to go on the treadmill be when the children are watching a favourite programme? That will keep them occupied and out of your hair, and also gives you a set time for being on it!

Or make a game of it by getting the children to march on the spot while you're on it, and see who keeps going the longest! :D

    7DW,

I monitor my weight in kilogrammes mainly because I have no concept of people's weight in kilogrammes. (Whereas I would know that x stones is terrible). I also only really take note of my 'lows' eg the weight today is higher than it has been for a couple of days but I don't take too much notice of that (as face is thinner and clothes loose) so I would still say my weight is 91.8kg. (Most I have ever been is around 112-117kg).

I do find it helpful to be able to tell someone so that is why DH knows. We don;t talk much about weight specifically but I may text him if I happen to weigh myself and it is low.

Unfortunately, having lived in Spain for eight years, I understand how much I should weigh in kilos. :(

There is no way I could tell anyone I knew, except a medical professional, my weight.

I have talked to my husband about my weight, and especially what I have discovered about the medication, but I still have not told him how much I weigh, nor will I. I do tell him when I have a weight loss, but not how much I weigh.

He is one of these lucky people who can eat what he likes and never puts on weight. He is only half a stone heavier than when we got married 44 years ago.

(I can say, however, that in kilos, I weigh about the same as you. There I have told someone!).
