Interesting that everyone says smokers and the premises they inhabit smell. This is not true. They stink. And they have no idea that they do.

If it's in a flat you have to consider the other people in the block as well - I can tell when my downstairs neighbour has been smoking and of course the smell trails through the close as well, although luckily there are no carpets/soft furnishings for it to stick to.

I have never smoked although my husband does. He smokes in the house and I would never tell him he had to go outside in his own home! He doesn't smell and neither does the house and that's not just my opinion.

I do think though that it's up to the owner of the property if smoking is allowed but some people are going over the top with the work.needed after a smoker leaves.

Tory - your pretty sense of smell has been affected by the passive smoking.
My mil is the same, bu when I leave their flat I wash ALL my clothes and ,y hair. That includes bra, paints, tights etc. because they all stink.
We can all smell it, you can't. That's because you're sense of smell has been affected.

The smell of cooking and garlic and frying and all that entails must be so easy to eradicate in a small flat so.

I hate cooking smells, and when I am cooking anything strongly smelling in my own (I own it) house, I keep the back door open, and the cooker hood fan on. Still smells for days.

    How do I fix this.

I suppose I have to go and eat a bland diet, no frying and no onions, garlic or chilli.

If you are a smoker, why rent a property where smoking isn't allowed?

Is it really that hard to go to the back/front door for a fag? With my job I'm in and out of different houses all day and I can easily tell the ones that smoke. The smell just lingers and a non smoker can tell a mile off. We own our own house and my partner goes out into the yard for a smoke or if it's chucking it down he at least hangs out the back door!

As a non smoker, I see the anti smoking brigade are out in their droves.

    Such intolerance!

Anyway, how do I stop cooking smells from pervading my house please. Even the neighbours asked me once could they come in for dinner, as the smells were wafting everywhere!

My house seems to reek of garlic and onions every day. I need a solution to this. Every time I enter the house I know someone who likes garlic lives there. Terrible. Even my clothes and the curtains smell of garlic every day.

It's not that easy to cook your dinner outside though....

It's Torry, which is very different.

I'm not naive. people meeting me for the first time have told me that there is no smell lingering. Washing your clothes is an overreaction and no way does your underwear smell! 👙

People don't generally cook garlic 20+ times a day!
