Did you see the recent Wife addicted to eating moths one? :rotfl:

Not sure about the moths, the last I heard was that she'd blown holes in his underpants with a blow-torch as a punishment for eating her chicken fridge-raiders. He wanted to know if he should borrow her knickers or just wear his holey ones :D
  • So all it takes is for one person to report one post, and you get a ban? Don't the mods look at the reported post to check if a ban is justified?

No but if the post contained a quote of another post which contained say libellous comments, the reply was deleted by the mods and the original post wasn't, then in the eyes of the law MSE would be screwed. Whoever the libellous comments were made about could take MSE to court for not deleting the original post. In the eyes of the law, deleting the reply would count as the mods having knowledge of a post containing a libellous comment, and not deleting that post.

We have a general rule that any talk surrounding PPR members isn't fair, as they're not here to defend themselves, so we remove it.
You're joking right? The only thing that never seems to change on this site is that repeat offenders simply return under new name. Not so much a case of being unable to defend themselves but back on the offensive. Instead of MSE admin focussing on removing things like religious threads where there is respectable debate why don't they start targeting repeat offending members of the public who seem to think they can get away with posting anything they like suffice for the short delay and the inconvenience of re-registering. My biggest frustration is seeing my posts disappear because the threads do... especially when it takes so much effort to write them in the first place. The result is that people are engaging in soundbite politics and petty squabbles knowing that anything more is a waste of their time. On a more positive note one of the admin is a bit of a hottie... how do I get her to discipline me?

I'm getting a sense of deja vu reading that, Muttley.
I said as much over on the 'Site Feedback' board not too long ago.
I still haven't received a response (at least I don't think I have) as to why they delete whole threads rather than just a few undesirable posts when spats kick off.
(I guess we all know the reason, though ...)

When you delete or edit a post you are 'moderating'. When you ban a user or give them an infraction you are 'moderating'.
    Exactly.
What job titles you give to people doesn't really matter.
Forum moderation exists, whoever does it and by whatever method.
There's MSE ForumTeam users which I presume either the board guides or another group of people use for moderation.
They certainly appear to be 'another group' in all sorts of ways.

They seem to be anonymous. (I can't ever remember seeing them mentioned by name or seen their pictures on the site, like Megan, Andrea, etc.)
Indeed the nomenclature ForumTeam1, ForumTeam3, etc seems designed for anonymity. One name could conceivably represent several individuals.

I guess they might be part-time staff (maybe working from home) judging from the times I see some of their handiwork (often very late-night). I wondered at one time whether they might just be alternative usernames for the 'known' Forum Team members (like Megan), but if so, then MSE is a hard taskmaster, working them round the clock. :(
But MSE seems to confirm that they are part-timers ...

There are also individual members of the Forum Team who work part time to supplement the work above.
They seem to be the ones that do a lot of the editing of posts to remove 'offending text'. And they seem to have their own 'specialisms'.

No, you do not look at reported posts regularly. There is proof of this in many reports from banned users, including myself (did you not read that I was banned for 24hrs for posting a picture of puppies?).

And yes, MSE has even said that those who are reported regularly are a waste of time/resources. I'll see if I can find the email it was mentioned in.

I have to agree with this. The Forum Team do not look at the posts that are reported, otherwise certain members who have been bullied by a clique would be supported instead of being PPR'd.

I think they look at the posts but don't necessarily look at the whole thread, or at the behaviour of other users on that thread.

    Absolutely spot on.

There is nothing more frustrating than whole threads getting deleted when the offending posts could have been deleted instead, particularly if it's a thread people have clearly invested time and effort in researching or discussing a subject.
