No, they rarely look at posts.
I imagine the odd report gets ignored, but mass reports (which can be strategically done by certain cliques) will more than likely cause a post to be removed and/or a poster to be banned.
MSE staff deem users who get reported a lot as a waste of resources/their time to actually bother checking the validity of reports.0 -

Marley and I were wondering the other day whether it's system-processed, in the same way that posts marked as Spam are auto-removed after a certain number of clicks of the spam button. Perhaps if there are enough Reports submitted about posts by a particular forum member, it does the initial 2week PPR automatically. But that's just a hypothesis.
I thought'd I'd get in here to clear a few things up. If 30 users report a post, we treat it exactly the same as if 1 user reports a post. We read around the post, look at past behaviour, look at the other users involved, and then make a decision. We'd never PPR just based on numbers. We are aware of cliques and how they can manipulate the spam/report buttons.
That is just a hypothesis I'm afraid! It's all dealt with manually for reports. (Yay!) Spam is partly automated but we can always review it, to see if it's genuine spam or not.senileturtle wrote: »No, they rarely look at posts.

I'm in the forum a lot of the time I'm working, as is the rest of the Forum Team. We love seeing what stuff you guys are posting about. (Wife addicted to hamburgers, anyone?)
We never deem anyone a waste of our time. You're all part of the forum, even those that troll occasionally (We know who you are :P)
I don't believe in censorship, personally. But there are rules in the forum, and a lot of the stuff I see that I have to take down is not nice. I want a forum where everyone feels included, and can get support if they need it.
If you feel like something been taken down and it shouldn't have been or we're not seeing the entire picture then please let us know. And as always, if you've any questions about the infraction process or reports system, and we can answer them, we will!

No, you do not look at reported posts regularly. There is proof of this in many reports from banned users, including myself (did you not read that I was banned for 24hrs for posting a picture of puppies?).
And yes, MSE has even said that those who are reported regularly are a waste of time/resources. I'll see if I can find the email it was mentioned in.
And it's obvious that the more reports a post/user gets the more likely they get banned or their post deleted.
There's rules and then there's the non existent ones MSE staff like to make up on the fly to justify a ban. Also, you may not be pro-censorship but the consensus for the majority of the staff here is completely the opposite. One particular mod here has been renowned for their deletions of posts that are in no way against the rules.
Plus, a good example of censorship here is we can't talk about Madeline McCann. Religious threads also often get deleted as do certain other threads.
And when we've asked repeatedly in the past about why certain things have gone missing we've been ignored or removed entirely (like the thread before this questioning the ppr of a particular member). Your post is one of the first responses from a staff member in ages.0 -
In fact, didn't need to find an email. Says it on the site already:

Posting is a privilege, not a right. This is a privately-owned site. Posting is a privilege, not a right. Any inappropriate posts or any issues that take up a disproportionate amount of resources or make it a worse place to be will be stopped at our discretion - with or without explanation. No one pays to use this site; when there are issues, we pay to resolve them. Sometimes we need to prioritise spending money on the site, other issues or better resources.0 -

That doesn't mean that we view anyone as a waste of time though. We always keep our discretion on certain subjects when it comes to removing posts. This is a HUGE forum, and as you can see from the Team photo, there is only 3-4 of us looking after it. Sometimes we do need to make other (more money saving) subjects a priority.

We have a general rule that any talk surrounding PPR members isn't fair, as they're not here to defend themselves, so we remove it.
The only MSE Staff on this forum are those with 'MSE' at the start of their username. We don't moderate the forums, but rather have our lovely Board Guides that help us out with their own sections. I know this can get confusing but plenty of UK forums operate this way.
Generally if you post on Site Feedback, we'll always look to respond to your posts where we can help. Like I said in my last post, we're a busy lot!

When you delete or edit a post you are 'moderating'. When you ban a user or give them an infraction you are 'moderating'.
There's MSEForumTeam users which I presume either the board guides or another group of people use for moderation.
Either way, the spiel that MSE staff are not moderators or do not moderate has been debunked plenty of times.
And RE: your other post, as I said before, MSE have explicitly stated that they view some posters as a waste of resources; be it in email, pm or on the site itself. One particular poster had to apologise for being a 'waste of resources' in order to be let back on.0 -
Ahh the joys of logging back on and finding a post of mine reported because a poster didn't really like the truth about themselves.
If you are going to post up about your life then surely you should expect all that comes with it? Guess not.Dont rock the boat
