PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hi all, thought I would add to the list of successes and failures on here. I sent a template letter to the head PPI office for RBS over missold PPI on a loan with Natwest I had for two years. It's been five weeks and have been offered £1260! Happy Days indeed.
My advice when claiming through Natwest, avoid the branch and go straight to the source. I have posted the address previously. I know people have had to wait a LONG time for Natwest to hear, so I must have been pretty lucky. Even the guys in the office there advised me to call EVERY WEEK to keep me top of the pile if you like. Thanks Martin Lewis, genuine top bloke!0 -

I have had a flexible loan with Cahoot (now under Santander) since 2003 and used Martin's template letter to reclaim 5 years'-worth of missold PPI insurance.
I received a letter last night to say they're going to give me £5,700 (all payments plus 8% interest)!!
I had grounds for complaint because I applied for the loan online and they sent me a letter to sign to agree to the loan but the box for setting up PPI wasn't ticked on the hard copy that I kept. I asked Cahoot to prove that I'd applied for PPI at the point of my online application and they said that they couldn't.
I argued that, because it's not something I would have applied for (which is true), and they couldn't prove that I'd applied for it online, I wanted the payments refunded.
Santander dealt with my complaint brilliantly - I had a letter from them within 4 weeks of my letter to say they were investigating and the final response with offer of repayment came 6 weeks after my letter.
If anyone has any doubts about trying to reclaim - DON'T!! It's well worth the price of the stamp and, in my case, I now have an unexpected windfall of £5,700!!0 -

Thanks Martin for your useful guidance on PPI reclaiming. I took a loan out with Barclays in 2007 who advised that I could claim if I lost my job. However, they neglected to inform me that that was dependent on how i lost my job.
Last summer I was let go during my probation period and unexpectedly found myself out of work. At this point I tried to reclaim my PPI but was told that I couldn't as I wasn't made redundant.
After months of being out of work and then another month of getting myself straight and back up-to-date. I used the first template letter to write to Barclays to get it back.
Fully excpecting a fight, I was pleasently surprised when I got a letter a month later saying that they acknowledged my complaint and after investigating, they could not proove that I was missold. However, as they didn't keep any records of that loan, they also couldn't proove that I wasn't missold and therefore offered me a refund.
As a result I was able to get 4000 back (including interest) and was able to reduce my debt to them by 9k and used the funds to pay off the HP on a car that I had purchased in 2008. In total thanks to this site, I have managed to reduce my debts by approx 12k.

Hi
I have now had several successes since I wrote in February, they are
HFC x 2 total: £3,964.00
Lloyds x 2 total: £7,400.00
Lloyds cc £ 500.00
Santandar are still refusing so dont know what to do now - say I signed for it so I got it basically. However, dont remember signing as took it out in the store.
Liverpool & Victoria - still waiting
Barclays cc - still investigating but should hear from them by 14.05.10.
Will let you know what happens

Hi Michelle
First of all well done on all your successes.
Santander have sent you a standard fob off by the looks of it, and as everyone signs as a procedure you still have your reasons, so do not give up on this one.
Was this the final decision from these?
If not then write back and ask them to reconsider, tell them despite you signing, you still believe with your reasons you were mis sold the PPI policy and out of pocket due to this.
If this was the final response, then I'm sure they should have sent you the FOS details with the leaflet. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0
