thanks for getting back to me- I contacted Northern rock earlier as I needed to discuss other things with them- I asked them if the policy was still running and they said it was cancelled in 2007 but they didnt know if it was them who cancelled it or us- I cant remember cancelling it but thats by the by now anyway, so am I right in thinking the loan is still ongoing but no ppi in place- so the ppi is only payable until 2007 that would be the premiums that i paid with the 8% interest on top. The loans are attached to my mortgage.

I just need to get this straight in my head before i decide what to do

    thanks for your help
hi there ruth, sorry i took so long getting back to you. if the ppi is cancelled make sure you havent been paying it since 2007. you need to know if the ppi amount was taken off the loan and if your payment reduced (you should find this on your statements) if thats ok and they did this. thats fine. if not get back to them, the ppi you should get back is the ppi you paid (the monthly payment just for ppi )from the start of the loan to 2007, again if this is what they are offering you thats good, if not get back to them, hope this helps you

  • Hi, i have only just had the courage to start sending my ppi claims away, if it has already been put on then sorry there are i lot of posts to go through but i would like to know if anyone has been succsessful with HBOS claims and also i had a loan previous to this one but don't have the details anymore but it was just under 5 years ago can anyone tell me how i can get the information before my time runs out
    thanks
  • I tried to reclaim PPI on a loan with Northern Rock in August 2007 using your letter template. They replied saying I'd had 10 days to read the small print before signing so I did not have a valid claim. I accepted that (thinking I should have read the wording better, as I have a pre existing medical condition). I have just received a letter (25th Jan 2010) saying they are going to pay me back £637.92 for the premiums plus interest of £204.86. I've now accepted this as full and final repayment and anticipate a better holiday this year!!

    Hi there

    Good luck with your reclaiming.;)

I think there have been some success, but if you do not get any joy, you can always take your complaint to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) to investigate this for you.

You could request a Subject Access Request (SAR) for all the info on your account(s), there is a SAR template on here, the link below, however it does cost £10 which you enclose this payment with the letter by either cheque or postal order payment.
Post by recorded delivery as well to ensure it reaches them, and they have 40 days to comply.

Ask for help anytime and please let us know how you get on, good luck.;)

  • hi

My first post here and a huge thank you to Martin.

After following the PPI reclaim instructions and based on the fact that I was self-employed at the time of taking out the PPI's and using the first template letter, cheque number one for £ 738.08 arrived from Egg this morning!

Just waiting on HSBC, Mint and Barclaycard now!

(So far Barclaycard have replied with a questionnaire to complete, the others with a standard reply letter)

    Will post any further successes.

Thank you Martin and the MSE team, at a seriously hard time financially, these unexpected funds will make a real difference!

    Best regards,
    Terry
