    Hi
Just quickly i have payed my paragon loan off 3 years ago, recently challenged them and in a reply which too forever they stated that i had a rebate for £1500 when loan was paid off. They said as a good will gesture they would give me 1,000 more, i declined. They have now increased the offer to £2,500 which adds up if you include the rebate, to exactly the amount of the original loan. However no interest payments oy rebates on payments. What do you think, i cant take this to court, and this is there final offer:mad:
Are you able to use the Ombudsman. Were Paragon under their jurisdiction at the time of your loan? If they were then you can take your complaint to them if you are not happy???

Hubby had already made the call, and it was interesting to say the least!!! As you all said didnt change anything for now but with him having an insurance background he did point out that when taking out insurance you shouldnt carry on paying for it once the policy has lapsed. He also stated that we never received any policy documentation for the insurance. The man at FP wasnt able to give an answer and then said ' sounds like it has been missold, you need to go to Loans.co.uk and if successful u will get and basically read off exactly what MSE says' I so hope that call has been recorded LOL.:rotfl:Anyway it has given us a bit more hope and I am doing the letter for the FOS now (cos I am sure it will have to go there!!) so I can send it as soon as those 8 weeks lapse!!!!

    more later I am sure

Thanks again everyone, so good to be able to share this and not bottle the frustration up!!!
  • Hello there

    In regards to the PPI
I was forced by First Direct a few years back to take out another loan with them to pay off the credit card, over draft and current loan i had with them or they threated to close my account

I was also told that I had to take out PPi or i couldn't have the loan.....

Payed off the loan 6 months early in 2008, took it out before in 05 i think

I rang them a few months ago regarding the PPI etc, they were not very helpful with the questions which is a first....they transferred me to the loan dept, told me no one was around....and sayed that someone would ring me back....they didn't

    Worth bringin up?? and fighying??

The PPi was worth between 3000-6000 on the loan with 11 apr rate...

    many thanks

    Richard_Cypher

Spoke to First Direct the other day, they have taken on the complaint and will get back to me in 5 days, if no luck i will use the templates and contact Umbudsman again

    • What were you reclaiming: PPI
    • Who was the provider: Barclaycard
    • How much did you get back: £5963.85
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: had to use the FOS to get things moving.
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
Having held a Barclaycard account since 1992 I though nothing of the fact I was paying PPI at around £10 per month (at todays prices), based on a balance of around £2500. Now my balance hasnt always been and isnt always that high but having read the forums and the current discussion in the media re PPI mis-selling I decided to have a look at what its worth to me.

I have been a serving member of the Armed Forces for the entire duration of the PPI, therefore were I to become too ill to work my salary would still be paid in full each month until I was fit again. So I gained nothing from the sickness benefit.

If I were to be made redundant, under the Terms and Conditions of my employment, I would receive a redundancy settlement well in excess of any statutory redundancy payment, and in any case would be more than enough to pay in full the balance of my card. So I gained nothing from the redundancy benefit.

I wrote to Barclaycard back in Feb 2009 asking them to STOP applying PPI to my account with immediate effect as I felt that I had been mis-sold the policy and using the template letter asked for a full refund of all premiums since 1992 plus interest etc.

From March through to Sept, Barclaycard were still applying PPI to my account and this really annoyed me, even if I was going to get nothing back from them, the least they could do was to read my letter and stop PPI payments!

Got a letter every 3 weeks from my Feb correspondence to state that they were looking into my complaint until the 3rd one which basically was a questionnaire about mis-selling of PPI. So 9 weeks had passed and they were no further ahead, in fact they hadn`t even opened the case. I refused to fill in the form they sent as I had provided them with all the information they requested in my original letter and phoned them to tell them this.

I really got sick by this time of getting fobbed off and stalled at every turn and decided to ramp things up a notch by filling out the FOS online form and sending it off.

Having sent the forms off to the FOS, I continued to pester the living daylights out of Barclaycard by phoning them on a weekly basis on the 0800 number at Barclays head office which I had also obtained from this site (thanks!!).

Now, 7 weeks and 6 days passed and they settled as follows:

    Value of PPI premiums paid from 24 nov 92 until 17 Sep 09 : £ 2083.45
Value of any interest paid for PPI £ 3646.28
Interest added at 8% simple per year £ 234.11

    Total Refund £ 5963.85

I know that I could have contested the "simple interest" but I`ve got nearly 6k that I didnt have in Feb and dont want to make any more fuss or work for myself so I have signed the forms and await the money in my account any time now!

I`ve just written to them again informing them that as they held my money illegally since 1992, that I expect a FULL refund of ALL charges and fees applied to my account plus interest at 8% for the past 17 years, and if records dont go back that far then I will be willing to accept an average of the last 6 yrs worth of charges per annum multiplied by 17. What do you think my chances are? I`ll keep you posted.

    Hi all,

Just an update on my 'win' against Loans.co.uk. I'm STILL waiting for my cheque!! Loans.co.uk have now exceeded their time limit of 8 weeks, as laid down by the FOS, and are now 5 weeks over the limit, making a total of 13 weeks!!! To say I'm angry is an understatement!! The lovely man at the FOS has been chasing this up and Loans.co.uk told him that they had sent a cheque out about 4 weeks ago but was probably 'held up' because of the postal strike. The man at the FOS contacted them again on 5th October as my cheque had still not arrived, and Loans.co.uk said they would cancel the original cheque and re-issue it. Up to today this cheque has still not arrived!! Other post has been arriving (bills of course!!!) but no sign of my cheque!! I doubt Loans.co.uk have ever issued a cheque and are using the postal strike as an excuse. Royal Mail haven't been on strike for about 3 weeks now to my knowledge, although I know they will be next week. I've been waiting for someone at the FOS to call me back (my man has gone off sick!!!) but have emailed them today requesting that they contact Loans.co.uk and ask them to make a fast track payment directly into my bank account. I'm so bloody angry I'm making myself ill!!!!!

If anyone has any ideas how I might resolve this I'd be very grateful. My head feels as though its going to explode!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I hope EllBee that you can get them to put this direct into your bank account, Egg did for me and I see no reason why this cant happen with Loans.co.uk.

Did an adjudiacator or Ombudsman resolve this for you?

    Hi Ellbee

    Hope your well.

You have been messed about with this haven't you?

They should I think post this out by Special delivery to ensure that this does arrive to you, they cannot use that as an excuse then about the normal posting.
So they are saying they did send one out, and because you have not received this, they will re-issue another, and your still waiting for it?
That is not fair, I would ring them and ask them when did they post it and if they posted this by recorded or special delivery to give you the tracking number details.

Editing: That is a even better idea what Pinknico have suggested, I would ask that they do this, also due to the postal disputes X

Stick with it they paid me on my card which was open from 1996 - 2007. This was eventually through the FOS
