PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

wrote to 2 of my credit card companies, Debenhams refunded £300 which paid off my card, replied straight away, result.
Today I received a letter from MBNA (Virgin Card) I had a balance of £2,100 which I have been trying to reduce for years, paying £100 a month only to get £55 reduced - £45 interst each month, though I would never get rid of it. However I wrote to them and received a letter saying that I never asked for the PPI to be removed therefore I had no claim against them. Left it at that then today received another letter from them saying that after looking into the case they were wrong and would offer me £150 as a gesture of good will. Good I thought until I read the rest of the letter. They have said that they have re-opened my complaint in order to review the original decision that was made. They have now upheld my claim and total refund to be credited to my account is a whopping £1,525.44. Now I can pay the card off in a couple of months and cut it up. Thank you soo much, it has made my day and taken a lot of worry off me wondering how I was going to get the card paid off. That is only 2 second class stamps and 2 fantastic results. Got a couple of more to do so I will post any further success's or failures. If anyone is unsure whether to try my advice is go for it you have nothing but a second class stamp to loose.:j
So MBNA are one of the companies that have had their fingers rapped by the looks of things:D.
Can i ask how long ago you received the letter saying they were not upholding the complaint and then how long after did they state they had reopened it? Also what year was your PPI applied? This may give us some idea of the reopening of complaints and the years they are looking into.0 -
hi, i have gone through the fos and won my claim against mint (rbs) and am awaiting payment, the thing i want to know is, has anyone else won against rbs via the fos and what interest did they refund you, did they give 8% compound? 8% simple? and finally did they give contractual interest in the refund?
thanks0 -

Hi there
Congratulations.

Hopefully someone will post to clarify on this for you soon, but meanwhile also check the link that Maxdp originally posted on how the FOS calculated refunds here:

Thanks to the advice here, I just got back a unbelievable £6300 from missold PPI on an Egg loan. I'd calculated I'd get back about £3000, so when the cheques arrived this morning it was a very pleasant surprise.
I distinctly remember when I took a personal loan to finance the balloon on a car loan in 2001 the guy from Egg saying "Yeah, we will only offer you the finance if you take the insurance". Never rung true with me (despite me going ahead), and I'm so glad that it's worked out.
Egg dismissed my initial claim but the good folks at the Financial Ombudsman did a brilliant job.
Time to buy a new bathroom and save the rest
Thanks again to this site for the advice. Much appreciated.0 -

Hi Terry, well done on your success to start with.
We have been reading lots of issues like this one, but more so if there are any outstanding arrears.
Was this a goodwill offer or a full refund of your ppi?
If a offer they tend to deal with it this way if the account is still active, but if they admitted liability then I think you have a right to request they refund you direct, as you've no arrears and never missed a payment.
Tell them you have been out of pocket due to this and if they do not consider refunding you what they owe you direct, you will not be happy and will complaint to the FOS.
Hope this helps and fingers crossed.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0
