Feeling guilty over the fact that last year I claimed over a £1000 back in unfair bank and credit card charges for my partner and never got round to sharing the good news here, I think it is only right and proper to share the first of what I hope will be several mis-sold ppi successes!
Having either worked for the local authority or had an independent income protection insurance, I noted with some suprise just how many credit cards and agreements I have been paying PPI on. With little naivety left when it comes to financial matters, it became pretty obvious that having read through the sections on the site I have been had for several years.
So armed with a book of first class stamps and Martin's fab template on Wednesday 12th March, I wrote letters to the following;
HFC Bank (DFS)
GE Money (B&Q Card)
Mint Credit Card
Capital One Credit Card
HFC Bank (Marbles Credit Card)
and today, just five days later I received my first, but rather defensive reply from Marbles (HFC Bank), defending their compliance with the Insurance Code of Business and explaining that the FSA's finding were specific to 'the branch network' and did not include PPI on Credit Cards. They also rather patronisingly reiterated my responsibilities to review agreements, reconcile transactions and query why I had not cancelled my PPI earlier.
However, in the second to last paragraph of a two-page letter - 'as a gesture of goodwill' Marbles have made a 'business decision' to refund all the PPI premiums levied since my cards inception in 2004 and I can therefore look forward to £295.93 plus a statutory interest payment at 8% making a lovely total of £337.28 applied to my account. All for the price of a stamp!
I will of course keep you updated as to the outcome of the others, but it has certainly brightened my day.
Martin, you deserve on OBE for services to the consumer!0 -

Hi
If you have received a final decision, that is what it is, Final - you therefore need to take this up with the FOS now, who will follow your complaint on for you.0 -
Got letter from FOS today saying the adjudicator upheld my complaint against welcome but welcome are still trying to get out of it, my complaint was i was told wouldnt get loan without taking the ppi as the lady giving me the loan had a copy of my credit refrence files in her hand and said as they were so bad i would need the ppi....
The adjudicator is trying to talk welcome round if not she will pass it to an ombudsman who's decision is final, hopefully this will go my way and not too long now.

What a fab result! Know I'm being cheeky but would you be a bit more specific with what you said about the unfair rebate? I'm in the same boat as you, been knocked back twice due to them not being regulated at the time so the unfair rebate may be an avenue to pursue, but I want to say the right words rather than risk them fobbing me off again.0

Hi, After looking through this great site I sent a letter to the HSBC 5 weeks ago asking for PPI back on 2 student loans I had. I knew I had a good case and was hoping for around £1300. Well they came back yesterday with an offer of £1865.97. I'm well chuffed. This will pay of my Managed Loan (another con) with a bit left over. Thanks Martin!0
