What were you reclaiming: Account Cover on Dorothy Perkins account card
Who was the provider: GE Capital
How much did you get back: £378.90
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: I sent 3 letters total
And then write your brief reclaim tale
I was a full-time student and in my 1st year of university (Feb 2002) when i opened the store card, i eventually cancelled the account cover a couple of years ago and a few months after that transferred the balance to another card. I keep reading this brilliant website as i had great luck in reclaiming my bank charges so when i saw the PPI thread i thought i'd give it a go. I'm very glad i did!!! I sent the initial template letter to GE Capital in either Jan or feb this year (i can't remember the exact date) and after receiving an immediate response saying "we have received your complaint and here is a booklet on our complaints procedure blah blah blah". I eventually received a letter stating how I had clearly signed for the cover and that i wasn't eledgible for anything but if i wanted to pursue the matter further they would require proof that i was working less than 16 hours per week. They even sent me the copy of the form i had signed (complete with my signature) to show how i had agreed to the PPI. I can honestly say until reading this website i didn't even know i should have been covered for unemployment etc - i thought it was just price protection. I sent them a letter back with proof that i was a student but was unable to provide proof i was working less than 16hrs as i wasn't working at all during that period so couldn't even send a wage slip. My favorite part of my letter was the bit where i wrote something to the effect of

"thank you so much for sending a copy of the form i completed to open the account. I would now like to draw your attention the top left corner of the form and the 1st three questions. 1)Are you over 18? 2)Have you lived in the country for more than 3 years? 3)Do you or your partner work more than 16hrs per week? I would have answered no to the last qustion had i been asked it, therefore i should have never been allowed to open the acount in the first place"

I mentioned in this 2nd letter that i had also sent a letter (Martin's template) to request a list of all PPI charges. Within a couple of weeks of my sending both my reply letter and charge request letter i got a reply saying i was miss-sold PPI and they were sending me a full refund. In the same batch of post i got the cheque for £378.90 including interest and a full breakdown of all my charges. All it took was 3 letters sent recorded delivery, 2 of which were from Martin's templates and the other was great to write as i knew 100% i was right and sarcasm is very stress relieving ;) and now it is all sorted. I am very happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :j :j :j :j :j
