Don't let them tell you. They will only say it was not them that pre selected it. If you believe it was missold to you then continue your complaint. Let FOS be the judge if needs be.

    Thanks.

I think I will take it further. Having a closer look at the 'screenshots' they have sent to me (which they claim can't be amended by Egg) it says I had been employed for 12 years and 3 months when I applied for the card, which would have made me 10 years old when I started working!!

Makes me suspicious. Even if that had been a typo by me surely they should have picked up on it and contacted me to verify.

There you go then. Don't trust them to tell you. They will try and wriggle out of it. Just continue your complaint and you will be able to go to FOS as Egg were a bank and would have been covered by the previous schemes that the Ombudsman took over from. Extra Good Luck

Thanks very much for your helpful responses. Just one more question if thats ok.

Do you think I should write to Egg again or go straight to the FOS?

If Egg have given you their final response then you are free to to go to the FOS OR if its over 8 weeks since your complaint then again you can take this straight to FOS.

If its neither of the above then write again and reiterate your complaint and then get them to give you a final and then go to FOS after.

Glad to have been some help.
Send everything recorded delivery too so you have proofs.

After reading the PPI Guide I checked my Credit card which the Halifax 'Gave me as standard' with my first debit card when I was 18. I didnt actually knowingly apply for the card so how they could've explained to me about PPI?!

I am now 25 and it appeared I had been paying PPI for 7 years. I sent the first template letter from the MSE site and edited it to say that I didnt know I had PPI so how can they have fully explained it to me. I requested a refund of all the charges since the account was opened.

Yesterday, 3 weeks after I sent my letter I received a cheque for £1049.84 which included the interest I had been charged over that period. They didnt even argue my claim!

    Thankyou MSE!!!

  • hi there,

wow congrats on your amazing success, im in the process on reclaiming my ppi from hsbc sent first letter off last week and got a response saying that they will get back to me in 4 weeks.

may i ask how much the loan amount was for that you took out?

how long did the ppi reclaim process take for you?

and do they refund straight into the loan account or do they send a cheque?

many apologies for the long email would be great to know as i'm a little nervous of the result i may get lol

    many thanks

What were you reclaiming: Loan PPI
    Who was the provider: HSBC
How much did you get back: £9700
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Letter

Just got home from a work trip to a letter from HSBC saying they admit no liability but have offered £9700.

Happy would be an understatement right now! :D

My friend has just had her claim upheld by the FOS for a loan she took out last year that had PPI sold with it. She had at first refused the PPI - but when the paperwork came through the PPI had been included. When she signed the paperwork she did not sign the PPI part - for obvious reasons.

She was contacted by Barclays and told there were problems with the paperwork as she had not signed the PPI part - when she said she didn't want it, she was told new paperwork would need to be sent out and this would cause a delay to her loan. Alternatively, she was told she could take out the insurance and, if she didn't make a claim, the premiums would be repaid at the end of the first 5 years. What she was not told was that this would cost her £2.5k in interest that she would not get back because it was a single upfront premium.

She took out the loan because she needed the money asap and because she thought she would get it all back after 5 years, that is until I pointed out the true cost.

Well atfirst Barclays offered her a reduced settlement which would still leave her about £2.5k out of pocket and so she took it to the F.O.S. Six months later they have upheld her claim and told Barclays to put her back to the same state she would have been in had she not taken out the PPI.

And... wait for it... have told Barclays to pay her £500 in compensation!! :j

So THANK-YOU all so much - she really needs the money and thanks to MSE and you all - she is much better off!!
