I had PPI added to an account without my knowledge about 20 years ago. I eventually queried it a couple of years later and cancelled it then. I put in a complaint last year about it (hadn't thought to before) and got £1500 back :T
I also got £400 as a 'plevin' payment from a CC company on an account that I did knowingly have PPI on."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -

May I also ask did you manage to retrieve statements from Barclaycard from the 1990's or did you have copies yourself?
My case is currently being considered. I challenged the amount refunded and supplied statements. I'm awaiting a decision. The PPI was from 1996-2004.
Not expecting further redress but, you never know!!
Hi commoditygirl, did you make a Subject Access Request for your statements or did you already have them? Kind regards0 -
Hi,
I had some statements for my Barclays account from 1998-2004 would you believe which showed the payments to my credit card?!
I had no Barclaycard statements but, the bank sent statements from May 2004 via a SAR. Ironically, that was the same month the PPI policy finished!
I spoke to the bank last week and they have been very decent and are looking in to my query. I supplied a lot of supporting information for my appeal, as my redress was estimated.
To be fair to Barclays they invited me to supply more information and will not request I repay any redress, if their calculations are correct.0 -

However, it's also very difficult trying to show the redress was wrong using evidence which the Bank themselves have provided. This evidence will already have been available to the case handler who awarded your estimated redress...0 -
We were those people who were convinced we'd never had PPI. But at the end of July with the deadline looming a niggling doubt crept in … what if they had applied it without us knowing … I read your articles, went to my bank's own website and submitted a general ask for them to check.
It could not have been easier and I would have been delighted if they had replied saying we'd not had PPI - it would have put my mind at rest.
I was completely overwhelmed to find out we had had PPI (despite the fact we had no knowledge) - with the interest and compensation added we received back just over £12,500!!
Thank you MSE - without your reminders and helpful articles I would never have done this.0 -

Congratulations! It’s great hearing stores like this!0 -
Hi I’ve put in some claims with a catalogue account and a store card. They want me to prove I wasn’t working in 1997. How do I do this? I was a housewife and didn’t do any paid work until 2001 .0

Hi ,
I've just received a rejection letter from Barclays stating I did not complain within the time period advised, they state they wrote to me on 1/8/16 & 1/10/16 if i believed there were issues relating to my PPI and now state as I am out of the 3 year time limit they don't have to investigate my claim.
I made my initial complaint on the 20/07/19 although im not sure if they received this one then again on 05/08/19.
They have paid me the commission refund but i want to know if its worth me pursuing the PPI?? Obviously I don't recall receiving any letters or I would have replied to them.
Thanks for any advice0 -
You can’t pursue the PPI missale aspect as per their letters, you’re now timebarred because you didn’t complain within the three years.helpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -

I've checked the first response they gave me which is dated 08/08 which states that they made a mistake when they first received my complaint and are sorry for the delay in replying, that implies to me that they did then receive my initial complaint of 20/07, what do you think??
Thanks0
