Been following threads on here and trying to do my PPI for years without any luck.
I had really amazing bens at work so I know it was mis-sold. Eg twice when my role was made redundant my firm kept me on with full pay til they found me a new role. Had a lot of debt in the 90's, nearly £30k on storecards, loans, credit cards, you name it haven't had any debt cards or loans since about 2002 when I divorced. Had no paperwork whatsoever.
I have a brain condition which makes remembering to do things and especially doing financial admin and writing letters and keeping track of things difficult. I do end up paying a lot of late fees and fines because i just forget. I tried the Which tool first, as a mate works there and got £10k from a loan she had no memory of, but I had no success. I kept forgetting to write back. I think I applied to the wrong banks. I didn't try the CAB as someone I know said they were hopeless and I can't deal with that as I'm too hopeless myself to have to coach anyone else to do what i can't do. (I suppose it depends who you see).
I read the advice on the main site so when a friend recommended a claims firm I thought 'nothing ventured nothing gained.' I know that they are loathed on here, but I am happy with the service I received. Apart from providing them my list of addresses going back 30 years, I didn't have to do any other paperwork at all, only sign my name. Everything else was done with telephone interviews. I'm also NFA as I live onboard and they forwarded things to sign to wherever I was at the time - I only pick up post from my land address about 3 or 4 times a year so this is what I'm most grateful for. And they texted me reminders to post things back - which I really need - because my memory is shot. So as it says on the main website, its not advisable to use a firm, but for a few of us, it's helpful. But yeah, I would check with others first, my friend also used a claims firm and said she ended up doing it all herself, so they are obviously not all the same. It's the internet so there's a lot of misinformation and assumption. I would ask trusted friends first.
Got £13,000 after paying the firm. They took 24% incl. vat. They did 22 searches - I had 8 successes - Capital 1, Barclaycard, 1 Santander storecard, and 3 loans and 2 credit cards from HSBC. Everything going back to about 1992 with no paperwork. There wasn't PPI on everything, I guess some firms interviewed me properly and could see I didn't need it.0 -
You obviously are very pleased with the outcome and it is good news that you are happy!
For others though, I would just point out that the Claims firm DID NOT complete 22 searches. All they did was send 22 forms. For this, they would have received £4000.00 including VAT which could have been yours. If at all possible, always enquire yourself.I work in Data Protection and spend my days dealing with CMC's. Yep, I end up paying over the odds for everything because of my stupid brain and odd circumstances so this is no different! Not being able to receive post easily has caused me no end of problems and because I'd used a forwarding address in order to believe I was who I said I was and get my PPI payment, Barclays sent me on this wild goose chase where I went to four different banks with my passport before someone tried to help me confirm my ID. If you don't pay/your name is not on any household bills, as far as some are concerned, you don't exist! It was easier for me to get my DBS last month.0

Used the template on Lloyds website.
One 20 minute phone call to explain what had happened when I took the loan out, conversation at the time, as much as I could remember about the advisor and the bank.
About 6 weeks later a letter landed advising complaints upheld. Details there were 3 loans with PPI, I only new the first one did, 3 subsequent loans had no PPI but as a result of the first 3 having it there was a knock-on effect.
Amount awarded just over £5,760 after deducting tax.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
I had reclaimed ppi back years ago from front loaded piggy back loans and had been successful to the point that a few years later I got a surprise letter through the post advising my claim had been looked at again and I recieved a large refund. This was with Lloyd's.
Anyway, about 6 or so weeks ago I was reading the site and ended up on the ppi board reading peoples experiences, and I kept getting a nagging feeling about a credit card I had over 15 years ago. I thought I mist have checked it when I checked my loans (all lloydstsb) and it mist not have had ppi but the nagging feeling wouldn't go away. I decided all it would take was a few mins of my time to fill in the ppi querie form on the Lloyd's page so I did. Within a few weeks I recieved £580 in my account without a single phone call or the form you usually fill in to make a claim, bearing in mind I hadn't made a claim was just asking if I had ppi. Funnily enough just after I received the money I found a letter dated about 7 years ago with the credit card number saying there was no ppi on the card. I get the feeling they just paid me off without investigating.
So just want to say thank you to this thread, if I hadn't read it I probably would never have queried the credit card, would have found the letter and as it said I had no ppi I would have just left it.“I knew who i was this morning, but I’ve changed a few times since then”

Earlier in the year Barclays bank contacted me regarding mis-sold PPI on a Barclaycard credit card that I had back in the 80's!. Back in 2017 applied through a third party to investigate a number of lenders regarding PPI. I had one success with Marks & Spencer, I didn't know I had PPI on this storecard. I received £8000, however, all the other enquiries failed including Barclaycard, so I was very surpised when Barclays offered me nearly £4500 for mis-selling. I can only think that they were doing the correct thing -well done Barclays.0
