Many thanks for the replies most appreciated. I guess I need too find the loan agreement The last PPI claim I have too deal with. I obtained refunds with far less hassle than this & with far less information than what I have for this one The search continues. :D

They also want to check to see if it is one they sold or one that a broker sold. As they have nothing at their end to show it, they need something from you as the initial paperwork will show the distribution channel used.

If it was a broker, like many of theirs, they can automatically reject the complaint as they would not be liable.

Your compaint reasons were provable in those cases or you had an auto payout.

And you're not obtaining a refund or claiming a refund. What you're doing is making a complaint about a missale. If all your complaint consists of is ' I had a loan with PPI, pay me back' you can see why they're not willing to entertain it.

How your other complaints were dealt with is completely irrelevant I'm afraid. As you say, unless you can find an Agreement (or other documentation) that references this phantom PPI then you can forget about this one.
  • Once again many thanks for the replies. One example I had was with Black Horse car finance 2004. I knew ( like with this First National ) I had PPI on the agreement but until I had loan agreement they wouldn't entertain me. The wife found this after5 mins of telling her. Soon as I phoned Black Horse and quoted the information it amazingly turned up on their screen . I know it was there all along which is the dis-heartening part about re-claiming this one with F/N/B. / G.E Can anyone answer one of my initial queries ?Have I enough too contact the Ombudsman or do I still need the agreement ? Many thanks in advance

No, because you don't seem to have exhausted GE's complaints process.

Understand that the Ombudsman won't be able to help you if neither you nor the Bank have any documentary record of PPI.

Find the Agreement or other documentation and, if it shows you had PPI, then you can complain. If not, this is a dead duck.
  • Just accepted an offer from HSBC for a loan and visa card protection dating back to 1999/2000.
I had no information other than I knew I had a loan at some point, so I filled in their online 'did I have PPI' form. Approx 2 weeks later they email me to say I had. I hadn't realised I had protection on the visa card so that was a bonus.
Filled in and sent their complaint questionnaire and HSBC called me at week 6 to ask a few questions (they just went over the form I had filled in) and I received the offer 2 weeks later at the 8 week point. The PPI wasn't a huge amount but a nice sum of £1380 due to the 18 years interest accrued.
I was amazed they still had all the policy details, as I understand they don't have to keep them longer than 6 years.
If in doubt, it's worth a try!
  • My wife recently contacted capital one regarding ppi on a credit card she got back in 1999, although they don't dispute that ppi was added to the account, that say she tick boxed all her details at the time and ticked the box for ppi, and agree that nothing about ppi was explained to her they say that ppi was not mis sold and will not give a refund, anyone else had such a letter please ???

    Thanks, Mike.
