I'm not sure if I can do it like this, but here goes. I am in the process of writing to various companies about PPI refunds using the templates supplied in the MSE site. Some of the letters require me to send £1:00 with the letter? How do I do this? as I don't want to enclose a coin?

This bear of little brain can't work it out

    £1 postage stamp ?
  • What were you reclaiming: Mortgage Insurance

    Who was the provider: Lloyds/LloydsTSB

How much did you get back: £11,125.60

Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Letter

And then write your brief reclaim tale: A rejected LloydsTSB Mortgage Insurance complaint led to Lloyds informing me of 10 Lloyds loans that I'd forgotten all about, 5 loans (one from 1994!) had PPI that were upheld.
  • Long time lurker here! After years of nagging my mother to let me help her submit her PPI complaints, she's finally caved in and we had a go together:

    MBNA Credit Card: £10,200
    Lloyds loan: £7,700
    Lloyds Overdraft Protection: £1,300
    Lloyds Credit Card: £21,000 (Plevin)
Capital One Credit Card: £2,300 (Plevin)
    Halifax Loan: £2,700
    Marks & Spencer Chargecard: £2,800

    TOTAL: £48,000 :-)

All submitted via Resolver + one phone call with Halifax.

She still has 7 catalogue complaints outstanding but I'm not holding out much hope for those as most were pre-reg.

I'm still in shock over the £21,000 Plevin payout from Lloyds; I haven't come across many that size before!

Massive thank you for all the amazing advice on this site.

You do not pay a penny to make a PPI complaint.

The £1 you refer to is where you are asking for a copy of a credit agreement on a current debt (not historic). That is not required for a PPI complaint and in most cases it wouldnt serve any purpose.

Have you never heard of cheques or Postal Orders? :)

As Dunston says above, though, there is no need to request a copy of the Credit Agreement and in the case of closed accounts it won't be available anyhow.

Are you writing to ask if you had PPI? If so, it's now the norm for Banks to volunteer this information on request. Only when there are no longer records of the finance in question are you likely to encounter any problems. Otherwise the Bank will respond truthfully whether you had PPI or not.

If you already know that you had PPI, then just write a short letter to the Bank detailing how it was mis-sold to you. That's all that is required and all it should cost you is the price of the stamp(s) you put on the envelope(s).
  • Hi all. I have recently found the paperwork for an old Barclay loan from 1995. The paperwork doe`s not state if PPI was on the loan or not. I phoned Barclays to ask if PPI was on the loan but the handler could not say.Is it worth pressing ahead with a claim or not? Any suggestions?

    Cheers

Under the consumer credit act, it is required for a loan to show if PPI is included. It appears as an entry on the agreement if you have it but no reference to it if you dont. So, if its not in the loan agreement then you didnt have it.

Yes it does. If there was PPI it would be itemised on the Agreement.

As it doesn't, it means you didn't have PPI on that loan.

Unlike credit card PPI, loan insurance was not routinely added at a later date.

Seriously? What are you going to "complain" about?

(By the way, I doubt very much you were speaking with a 'handler" at the bank)
  • Who was the provider: NatWest credit card

How much did you get back: £3381

Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Sent an email using a template on Resolver

And then write your brief reclaim tale: Was refused a mis-selling claim in 2012. Used Resolver tto submit a Plevin claim on 14th November 2017. Letter this evening to say I’m owed £3.3k. Delighted isn’t the word! £609 to come off for outstanding defaulted balance but then the rest is mine! Going to treat myself to a secondhand sofa (and a bottle of plonk to drink on it!) to celebrate. Resolver is the easiest tool to use. I probably wouldn’t have bothered without it.
