  • Hi all. New to the forum but i've decided to go down the PPI route to see if i'd be entitled to anything (may as well eh)

My question to you is this, many website say to do it yourself, and that you'd save the fee a PPI company would charge. (25% + VAT seems standard). That sounds fine and all but my concern would be all the items i've probably forgotten about.

Over the many years I've had a few credit cards, Mint, Egg, Tesco etc but if i was to go about trying to reclaim PPI myself what level of information would i need to get these details ?

If i went to a PPI company would they be able to retrieve all these details from my financial past? I have no idea what access they have but figure if they do have access to my information they may be able to retrieve more items from my past than I can actually remember ???

Grateful for your thoughts and advice :)

With a claims co, you have to get all the info, they only write to the banks on your behalf and charge a fee plus Vat.
Contact the banks yourself and see if they can find you, give them as much info as you can, give them any old addresses to help them, come back and let us know how you get on.
Have a look at home and see if you can find any info, old statements etc.
What reasons for mis sell would you have?.

Your details are not in the public domain. A CMC asks you the details. They cant magic them up.

In most cases, name, address (past and current if changed) and date of birth is enough. Account numbers only tend to be required for older cases where the filing for that may be under account number rather than account name.

    no.

There is no such thing as "reclaiming PPI". You are talking about making a complaint, i.e. a formal allegation of wrongdoing against someone and claiming that you were misinformed/misadvised at the point of taking out a PPI policy. If you've forgotten who you've even had credit with, it's going to be pretty difficult to do that in good faith.

In answer to the last part, you would just need to contact the provider (if you can remember who they are) and give your personal details, then ask if you had PPI with them. However, this will only tell you if you had a policy or not.

Quite simple, they have no access to any of your information as it would be a DPA breach if they did. They can't do any more than you can, i.e. contact providers and ask them, however, they would be reliant on you providing details of your creditors.
  • In July my eldest daughter received a letter from Nat West asking her if she wanted to complain about the selling of PPI. She did and got about £2000 in September. Amazing! She persuaded me to fill in a form and send it off to Nat West. I did. I didn't have a credit card number. I paid it off in 2005. They acknowledged my complaint with a week and sent me text messages updating me. Then they phoned me and we had a discussion. 3 days later I got a letter offering me £2865.79. I accepted the offer and received a cheque 3 days later. After this I completed a form for Barclaycard and MBNA. That was 5 weeks ago. Barclaycard have written to say they are investigating. MBNA sent a letter yesterday upholding the complaint and offering £4536.36. So thank you Martin. I had no idea I had this insurance. If you don't know whether you had it or not. Fill in form(s) send them off. It's well worth it. What's the worst that can happen - you get a letter saying you didn't have it. If you don't you'll never find out.
  • First of all I would like to say that Halifax dealt with my claim for PPI on three loans very quickly and after sending first letter on 10th October , I received letter on 26th November advising all 3 were upheld and cheque followed on December 2nd for all 3 upheld PPI claims

My question is as I'm unsure and have seen so many post banded about regards redress I was hoping without me stating what my total sum should have been I would like anyone with sime knowledge to advise of rough figure in total I should have received , I will then advise what I actually did receive

May I add all PPI was front loaded

First Loan Upheld total PPI £3,479.14

Second Loan Upheld total PPI £3,574.91

Third Loan upheld total PPI £1,385.52

All figures do not include charge for credit for insurance loan and interest

Please can someone advise what they think I should have got back in order to see if it's correct or was it just another redress

    Thanks in advance

Did you use one loan to pay off another? If so they will factor in a rebate of the PPI when the first is repaid.

Note sure what you mean "All figures do not include charge for credit for insurance loan and interest" - you will get 8% simple interest on the PPI refund

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • They were all separate loans

Did you pay off any of them ealry? Without knowing how much the PPI was, how much interest was charged, and when the loans were, no one can roughly guess...

Your redress is a fixed figure, which is the amount of PPI you borrowed, the interest associated with that amount, 8% simple interest [15% before 1993]. The amount of insurance borrowed will be less if you paid the loans off early.

This is included in the redress payments.
You would have paid x amount in total every month for the PPI plus interest, this is what you get back, as taff said.

They may have been separate loans but did you repay one to then take the next, or, did you repay one off and then later take another?.
