  • Just received a letter from Lloyds offering me £2,000 on a PPI policy for a personal loan back in 2004...whoop whoop!

I'm slightly confused though.......they have said they've decided to give me back the money on the PPI policy for the loan I had back in 2004 but not on a policy I had back in 2001. They don't give any details on their decision for the offer of £2,000 so I don't really know what the difference is between the two decisions. They never asked for any information on my circumstances for the 2004 loan, they've just offered me an amount but for the 2001 loan they've called me to ask a number of questions which I must say was pretty difficult to answer as it was over 14 years ago. I have no paperwork and couldn't even remember the details of my loan let alone remember if I had PPI. (it was a surprise to find out Id taken out 6 loans in the past!)

So I'm in a situation where I have to decide what to so next......take their offer or question how they have come to their conclusion. I'm thinking could their offer just be a way of them thinking I'll be happy with that, accept it and walk away hoping I wont challenge them!.....Has anyone else experienced this or thinks I should/shouldn't challenge their decision?

I filled in the 'free PPI claims template', About four years ago. I was claiming for my first Halifax mortgage and then the new mortgage when we moved house. The claim came back unsuccessful, as Halifax believed I had not been miss-sold PPI.
Four weeks ago, i received a call out of the blue from the 'Halifax PPI claims team', saying they were going to re-look at the claim. I had to give details of why I thought I was miss-sold PPI, whilst on the phone. I couldn't remember much about the first mortgage, but for the second mortgage I said that ' the agent we were dealing with made it sound like we would not get the mortgage from the Halifax unless we took the PPI. Imagine my surprise when three weeks later a cheque appeared for almost £3000, to cover the claim on the second mortgage. Thanks MSE, wouldn't have tried otherwise. :j:j:j
  • Filled in the template letter and posted it to smile / Cooperative bank 4 weeks ago, with no details.. Only my address and date of birth . I had a smile credit card which I applied for online in 2000. Never had a huge balance on it and was hoping for possibly around the £1,500 mark. Thinking that the bank only had to go back six years I was not holding my breath! They sent me back the form to complete which I did and this morning I recieved an offer for £9,775!!!!! I have filled in and returned the yes letter as fast as I could. The bank have taken it right back to my opening of the credit account in 2000! And most of the redress is interest! Thank you mse..
  • Hi to all! I would just like to say that about a year ago I received a letter from the RBS group regarding that I may have been mis-sold PPI on loans I took out between 2002 to 2008. I thought Oh',Okay, but I just put the letter to one side as it stated that I have 3 years to respond. Fast forward to this year March 2015, I decided to get things in order and see if I am owed a refund. They sent me an acknowledgement text and letter to say that they are looking into my complaint. If I had any further information, I could complete another form that they sent. However, I was not sure what else I could put as I already gave them the information, but the form as I read in the letter was optional. I then consulted moneysavirngexpert to see what others had said about this and the common theme was that they often try a delay tactic. I then received a telephone call to clarify some areas for them in early May 2015, and was informed that they would let me know of their decision by 20th May 2015. To my surprise, I received a message on the 14th May to say that they will be sending me a letter regarding the outcome of their investigation, I will need to wait 10 working days from this message. By Monday 11th May 2015, I received 4 letters regarding the different loans I took out and they upheld my complaint! I could not believe it, it was a sizeable amount. I thought I would only receive three thousand pounds (which is still a good figure), but my refund was in double figures. So I would encourage all to go and reclaim what you are owed.

I would just like to clarify if I can, I have a credit card, but am not sure if I had a PPI on it. Even though I was successful in getting back a refund on my loans, would I still be able go make a claim on my credit card? I also received a letter from AI Scheme Limited regarding the possibility of how their product was sold. I have responded by agreeing for the scheme to apply for reclaim. So I hope others who have received the letter agree also.

Was the car loan taken out with Black Horse or were they just the finance provider and you were sold it by the car dealership?

If you were given finance by the car dealership you have no complaint as the dealership was not regulated in 2001 (started 14/1/2005) so they have no liability even if you had PPI - chances are 9 years later they will have deleted your data anyway.

If the loan was from Black Horse direct they would be regulated but it seems you have little or no case as you don't even know if you had PPI let alone establishing if it was miss-sold

A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Look on your statements, any PPI policy would be listed as a charge every month when you didn't pay the balance off in full.

    Hi Nasqueron
The car finance was sold by the car dealer but loan directly arranged by finance company. I'm have contacted my bank to get more details of this and I now have an end date which is 2007. I think it might have been in conjunction with Barclays partnership finance.

I did receive £3000 from Blackhorse about two years ago as I'd had a loan with them (they wrote to me). I was on this site a month back and remembered a Capital One c/c that I'd paid off years ago and thought I'd phone to ask if I'd received PPI from them, I was told yes and they sent me the reclaim form. Even whilst completing the form I was doubtful but sent it off anyway. Just come back from holiday to read a letter from Capital One saying I am owed £166! Very pleased and I say to anyone, please just try.

In these circumstances the lender is not the "seller", the car dealership is. You need to complain to the car dealer first (they will reject as it's pre-regulation) then you can try the finance company but as they didn't sell you it, they technically have no liability so it might be fruitless, up to you if you wish to pursue this.
