I put in a claim for PPi with Halifax in 2012 for a mortgage I had, they refused my claim, so thought nothing of it then out of the blue the Halifax contacted me by phone and said I was owed £1812.20, I could not believe it, they had hidden it within my mortgage payments. I'm now gonna try all the other lenders I have had, I have frequently changed my mortgage over the years, I knew that I hadn't wanted PPi.0

MPPI wasn't "hidden" inside your mortgage payments, it was done as a bundle including other insurance and Halifax have been auto-paying on the MPPI element - if you go in guns blazing accusing them of hiding the payments they will just show you a monthly direct debit alongside mortgage repayment and/or the contract you signed showing you agreed to it - that will harm any further complaints you put in, so be careful.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Barclaycard are refunding £2408 for PPI payments made between 2001 and 2008 (and the interest.) FOS works slowly, but I'm so glad we bothered to apply to them when Barclays initially refused! The letter admits that they failed to 'offer products that were right for you' and says they're sorry. This means that every one of the companies who charged us PPI have paid out in the end, and without paying a penny to a claims management parasite.
I'm very grateful to this site for the help!PPI on Natwest loan, Barclayloan, MBNA credit card, and Mortgagecare all repaid just for asking in 2012/2013!
Barclaycard - PPI refund refused 26/01/13, ombudsman upheld 12 May 2014, Barclays resisted until March 2015 - FOS say Barclays are calculating an offer, they have 8 weeks.0 -
Hi I've just had a sucessful ppi compliant ( which is great !) However on the phone they said it would be paid into bank account within 21 days, however I do owe money on a lloyds credit card and reading the paperwork it said it could be paid against any money owing to Lloyds , can they just automatically pay it off my card ?? ( which would be great buy not great timing) Only I really could do with it into my bank for more pressing things that need paying0

If you are not in arrears (i.e. making minimum payments every month), or have historic written off debts, they will not offset.
If you are paying 15-29% on the credit card then you would save more in the long run paying that off unless you have something really urgent like a car repair to help you get to workSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

Thanks to Martin's handy guide I contacted my Bank, Lloyds, regarding a potential PPI reclaim connected to a Credit Card taken out in 2002 and after two letters and a completed questionnaire I received a cheque for just over £461 and a very nice letter apologising for any inconvenience. Didn't cost me a penny, I'd call that a result, thanks Martin0

Getting there slowly... I hope
Put a claim in to three years ago to Natwest for PPI from a card opened in 1989. got refused so took it to FOS, 2 years ten months later got a letter saying they had upheld my complaint, and Natwest would contact me with an offer. Rang Natwest to ask if they had records going back to 1989 but they were most unhelpful and said they were still waiting to hear from the FOS. Last week got a text fromRBS saying they would make payment but no detail of how they would calculate it. This morning a cheque with absolutely no detail of how the amount had been arrived at. It was for a much lower amount than I had calculated from a spreadsheet on a ppi forum.
Are natwest trying to be as awkward as possible!!!0 -
The Funding Corporation
Secured Loan outstanding balance £45000
Repayments £495 a month of which £192 was PPI
Loan term 20 years
PPI only covered 5 years
They wrote to me December 2014 to say I could be eligible for a refund. I used the template on your website and sent the letter in January
Today I received a letter from them offering £17934.37 and the obvious reduction of future payments. They have given me the options of using the money to to pay off some of the balance or have the money paid to me directly.
I had considered claiming a PPI refund from them a few years ago but due to the date I took the loan out and they weren't overseen by the FOS I thought any attempt would be futile. When I received the letter a few months ago I almost didn't open it but now I'm so pleased I did.
I wanted to share my success and show people they have nothing to lose from trying. It's the most profitable 20 minutes and 62p I ever spent.0 -
