I have just received a letter from FOS saying that my claim against Cap One is now going to Ombudsman on Feb 27th. They have had it with them two years. The Adjudicators have upheld my claim twice ( second by a different adjudicator). They say that Cap One are just dragging their heels. My chances of it being upheld again are very high they think. My question is does anyone know how long it takes from this stage? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
  • Reclaimed: Credit Card PPI from 2000 - 2005
    From Provider: HSBC
    How Much Reclaimed: £1,675
Had To Go To Financial Ombudsman? Yes

In July 2012 I used Money Saving Experts template letter to claim back mis sold PPI from HSBC on a credit card I had closed 7 years previously. I had opened a credit card in 2000 when I was 18, still at school, working a Saturday job and a month before taking a gap year in the United States.

When I had the credit card I was bad with money and had hardly any statements left. HSBC responded and offered my £90 redress plus £70 interest so a total of £160. I knew this was nowhere near what I would have paid considering I was almost always at my credit card limit.

So I came back to Money Saving Expert to seek advice about contacting the Financial Ombudsman and in September 2012 I wrote to them. They kept me informed and told me that they had so many cases that it would take up to 24 months to resolve.

In January 2015 the Financial Ombudsman contacted me to say that HSBC would be looking again at the amount and where there were gaps in information they would average the amount. HSBC then contacted me and offered me a final total redress of £1,675 including interest.

THAT IS 10 X THE ORIGINAL AMOUNT THEY OFFERED ME!
LONG WAIT, BUT SO WORTH THE WAIT...

HSBC back in 2000-2008 treated me terribly. I was a naive young 18 year old and they took advantage of my naivety and I ended up in terrible debt. They were irresponsible and although I kept hitting my limit on my credit card, they allowed me to spend, charged me fees and then upped my credit card limit so I could spend more. When I hit £10,000 they then convinced me to get a loan to cover this. Luckily I was able to pay that off in 2012 and now other than a mortgage I can say I am debt free.... No thanks to HSBC!

The £1,675 goes a little way in making up for HSBC's irresponsibility and neglect of customers. The staff involved should feel ashamed.

I also would like to add that when I first had an account they were Midland, not HSBC, and Midland were great.

Reclaimed: Mortgage PPI from 2002 - present
    From Provider: Santander
How Much Reclaimed: I had no idea how much I was going to get back - if any.....
Had To Go To Financial Ombudsman? No

Phone their PPI mis-selling line. Filled a form in. USED THE GUIDE ON THIS SITE and here I am 5 weeks later with an offer. I am going to accept

7500 pounds in my pocket for mis-sold PPI on a mortgage I took in 2002. All the premiums returned plus interest at 8%. They did take tax off but I am going to reclaim that too not being a UK taxpayer.
  • I applied to Lloyds directly using MSE forms and then, when they rejected me, I tried again through a PPI reclaim firm thinking that their expertise might help. Both times I was rejected.

I had two loans in the mid 90s totalling about £17.5k (£12.5k and £5k). I knew that I had PPI because, when I was made redundant, I distinctly remember calling them and trying to claim payment protection for the monthly repayments (at least £350 per month). They refused saying that I needed an Unemployment Benefit number. I think the rules were at the time that I had to wait 6 weeks for that. I think also that the authorities refused to give me a UB number because I got a redundancy pay-off and I had to have spent this first before they would register me as unemployed. Bit sketchy on this though as it's so long ago but can recall feeling an overriding sense of anger and injustice at it all. It still rankles with me as trying to meet the £350+ payments whilst not being in work meant that it had a knock on effect with other creditors and I ended up defaulting on a whole heap of loans & credit cards. The resulting mess took me years to undo and I'm still paying 3 of the debts now (nearly 20 years later). I couldn't get credit throughout my 20s and had to have the most basic of bank accounts. My fault? Yes. I guess so. I shouldn't have got so far in debt but, as I say, I'm still angry that PPI didn't do what it said on the tin.

Anyhoo, the good(ish) news is that Lloyds must have some money left in the PPI kitty and they've now written to me to say they've upheld my original claim and they're going to give me £3,200 back. They're completely guessing at the numbers because they don't have any paperwork and, since I don't have to pay 25 or 30% back to an agency, I think I'm going to take it. Still feel cross though. I can't get that period of my life back and I still think PPI should have paid out with no questions asked.

Should I have asked for interest on the amount since they first rejected me back in September '12?

PS I hope MBNA have some money left in the PPI kitty because they refused me too. I know I had PPI with them too.
  • Hi all

I rang HSBC on the 9th Jan to lodge my complaint for an account opened in 2002 and ppi was payed untill 2004

I received a letter back within a couple of days to say they were investigating and asked me to fill in the questionaire in the meantime.

I never posted the questionaire untill 6th Feb but i recieved a letter on the 10th feb dated the 4th Feb offering me £3209 after removing the bit of tax

    Happy days for me.

Waiting on Yorkshire bank now who are still inevstigateing although it was 8 weeks yesterday since I lodged the complaint.
  • I had my original PPI claim in 2012 against Lloyds TSB turned down on 2 loans I had over the years. The reason given was that there wasn't any evidence that it had been mis-sold.

I was then, very surprised to receive a letter last week informing me that as part of their ongoing process my case had been reviewed and they were now upholding my claim and I'm due to receive £7,500. The loans are 17 and 13 years old.

This has renewed my hope and as soon as I receive the money I'll be contacting them again about the PPI on my credit cards that was automatically added - they date back almost 20 years!!

I also have PPI claims on 2 lots of car finance (which I have found paperwork for) and at least 1 loan with the former Alliance & Leicester...
  • Reclaimed: Credit Card PPI from 1990
    From Provider: Barclaycard / Masterloan
    Goodwill offer: £1,893

My claim :11,075 Based on premiums + int @8.00%

I've banked the cheque and written back that this is nowhere near enough based on my simple spreadsheets.

I've chased by phone and they are re-examining the case.

    I'll update with more info.

As they have already accepted liability, I'm reasonable confident of a much better offer :-)

They might still come after their fee if they find out that you were successful in your original claim.
