  • I had a personal loan from my bank (First Direct) about 10-15 years ago but I couldn't remember the details and didn't have the paperwork anymore. I followed MSE's advice and used the templates, more in hope than expectation! My loan was around £14,000 and I thought if I got anything it would probably be in the region of £3,500 (25% of my loan, which seems to be the average pay out). My bank replied very promptly with the information I required re the loan, I then sent in my complaint and again, I must say the reply was very prompt. They upheld my complaint and offered me £5,445 (net). I'm so pleased that I took your advice and I would say to anyone - try it and don't be conned into using any of these 'no win no fee' companies. MSE make it really simple to do it yourself. :j

    Hi all

Submitted a claim by phone to Lloyds primarily to try and clarify what PPI I had taken. I knew of two occasions but thought that was it.

This was acknowledged 30th October and I've just found out that they have upheld four complaints, now decided one loan they said had PPI didn't actually have it, and defended three complaints. The chap read the letter out to me that said basically "we don't think it was mis sold so there". The letter is being posted today so hoping it i accurate! I've checked and the loans are all pre 2000 they are defending so they have no documentation (as they admitted on the phone with me when they did the call to clarify)

This was all with no documentation of any kind, and the offer on the four is £5177.49 with liberty to accept that and receive payment while disputing the remaining complaints. Is that normal?

I've asked them for all documentation they have on the defended loans as I have none - pointed out that I would have to do an SAR if they didn't comply so it would be treating customers fairly to send it anyway but as they're old they may have none.

So....delighted so far, now to see what they argue over.

Anyone who hasn't done this themselves, please do. There's no need to give 30% to a claims co!

Any hints on combating likely defences? Better to go back to the bank than straight to FOS?

    Thanks everyone!

Just to say that as a result of all the great info on here I have managed to claim back the following:

    MBNA £3100
    RBS £122
    Barclaycard £2400
Lloyds (for a packaged bank account) £2500

Outstanding are a old Lloyds loan and my Lloyds credit card. And potentially Goldfish if my Barclaycard payout didn't include this.

    Thanks!:j

Well done and I hope the bank calculates you a fair tidy sum and keep us posted

  • I have an overdraft with Barclays Bank and thought that the £2.40 I was charged on a monthly basis was a charged incurred to make use of this overdraft facility.
Recently, my statement starting showing 'overdraft PI' against the £2.40 charge.
I immediately contacted Barclays to query this.
I was put through to the department that deals with these complaints.
I had a discussion and was told I would be sent some forms out in the post. I explained that I had no idea that the payment was for an insurance and could not understand why I had been misled to believe this was a payment to use the overdraft facility.
I then received some forms to fill out. I had minimal recollection of how I was sold the insurance so could only fill out what I could remember.
2 weeks later I received another form requesting proof of where and when I took out the overdraft (to which I could only tell them it was at my local branch in 1998) and proof of employment status, to which I could only state that I was in full time employment and could provide my employers details only. I returned this on 3/12/13.
I checked my bank account today and have been reimbursed to the tune of £701. I am gobsmacked! I was not expecting to get that much back.
I would advise anyone to give it a try. I just kept reiterating the fact that I did not know it was an insurance, I would not have needed insurance for a £300 overdraft especially as I was in full time employment and there was never any disputing these facts.
  • I had PPI on my credit cards, however as I applied online and had ticked the box for PPI not knowing this was PPI LLoyds came back to me and said I must have known about the policy. I did try to claim over 6 months ago. Should I try again or is this a no win situation? I wasn't ever contacted about the policy and didn't even know I had this.
    :( x

Had a loan with Mercantile Credit Liverpool owned by Barclays in 1990s so I sent questionnaire off to Barclays in Canary Wharf but of course they could not find me as I no longer had the account no.

Read in a thread here that if I wrote to

    Barclays Assurance
    Policy Administration Department
    PO Box 12146
    Dublin 2,
    Ireland

they would provide me with a copy of my PPI and they did. Have sent this to Canary Wharf and they have acknowledged this and are looking into it.

6 weeks later with no reply. I do not know IF I am sending my complaint to the right address as I have read elsewhere that complaints should be sent to Barclays Marine Finance.

    Can anyone help with this?

Still waiting up to today 13/12/13 have rung them 5 times and they confirmed it was still being investigated and I was in a queue. They did confirm that I was in the right place.

If they acknowledged then you have to give them 8 weeks to respond, contact them when the 8 weeks is up and see how the claim is going.

:j Well done on your wins thus far and thanks for the addresses.

still waiting on Barclays Canary Wharf who have confirmed I am in the right place and in a queue whilst this is investigated. Have rang 5 times and got the same answer.
