  • Don't take "no" for an answer. I found my original paperwork for a loan I took out in 1998! It was with Prudential Banking, no longer in existence. I even had the orginal newspaper advert. Now operated by Canada Square Operations who, when I first contacted them, denied it was anything to do with them. I insisted it was them (after having carried out some Google searches as to who took over Prudential Banking). I had to press home my point. They did phone me back to confirm they were responsible and I completed the official PPI forms (via the MSE website and using MSE advice).

In less than a month they confirmed I was eleigible for a refund, plus interest on premiums paid, plus 8% interest. Total £2692.98 Yay! (less tax, boo) leaving £2,421.90, cheque now received.

    Success!
  • Just had to post as a huge THANKS to this site and its fellow users. In June of this year we managed to finally get back £860 from Blackhorse. This took just under two years and we used the letter template provided on this site. We received a terrible reply from the bank, effectively claiming we had lied despite the fact it was clear the employee had set up PPI for us on our loan after we had left the office and in spite of the fact a medical condition of my husband's (horseshoe kidney) is not covered by most types of insurance. We contacted the Ombudsman again using info and guidance found here and eventually the Ombudsman contacted us and said they had encouraged B/H to settle in our favour! Encouraged by this and despite the wait, we then pursued a much larger PPI we had from 2002 with the Bank of Scotland. I have to say this bank were much friendlier and helpful than Blackhorse. The first problem was the fact the account was deleted and the staff were struggling to find us. We were told that it would take some time to locate the loan details. However someone rang a day or so after, checked the details of our previous address, my hubby's kidney issue and then four days later a cheque for £3, 600 came to us! Thanks so much for taking the time to provide such useful advice, it's much appreciated:)
  • Barclaycard refund received £690.32

CitiCard confirmed refund (not yet received) £906

The more interesting - three loans taken with Bank of Scotland/Halifax all around the same time in 1998 - 2 PPI claims upheld (£1,263) but the third defended - guess which one had the much larger PPI premiums on it??? - I do note however that BOS/Halifax are inviting me to challenge the decision on the defended complaint within 28 days so another robust letter and FOS threat may persuade them seing as my circumstances were no different in the case of the two upheld???
3 out of 4 MBNA Card PPI's now rejected (4th awaited) so FOS written to.....

This will be just a coincidence, the Bank won't choose to reject a complaint simply on the basis that it had a larger PPI balance.

The Bank's form rejection letter "invites" you to challenge the decision if you have new evidence not in your original complaint. However, you cannot just challenge on the basis that your other PPI complaints have been upheld.
If you feel the Bank have rejected unfairly, the next stage of your complaint is an Ombudsman referral. Writing back to the Bank is just a waste of time that your complaint would be in the FOS queue.

Thank you - I forgot to mention that they have arrived at all three decisions without receiving any information from me, purely from their own records. Appreciate the comments.
  • Just thought i would post, I have finally had payouts from 2 credit card companies for PPI payments dating back 15 years, I was not aware I had it and no longer have the cards. I just filled in the paperwork with account numbers from old bank statements and sent them off to see. I have just recieved both cheques last week. The first was MBNA for £5,800
The second was from Barclaycard for £12,020
That is £17,820 for 2 letters and about an hour of my time.
I did not use a claims company so i keep the lot, thanks for the letter template, cauldn't be happier.
The whole pocess from writing the letter to the cheque clearing in my bank has taken 8 weeks.
  • Hi all,
Can anyone help, i'm getting really frustrated. I have an ongoing claim for a loan i had with lloyds tsb, i went to the ombudsman and filed a claim and they recommended that lloyds uphold the complaint so i was obviously chuffed thinking i was going to get a payout for something that i never consented to for and something i never knew i was paying.
Since i received a letter from the FOS dated early september about upholding the complaint they said i should receive a decision by early october and have still received nothing from lloyds or FOS. I have rang both lloyds and FOS a few times and seem to be getting fobbed off by lloyds and keep getting told by FOS that they cant do anything till they hear from lloyds. Any advice much appreciated
    Thanks

I had a more complicated story than you. mine got refused 18months ago and ive been fighting since, providing more evidence. relentless phone calls and being given the same scripted response.

just over 2 weeks ago I emailed the C E O. I had a official email response within a few hours and have received payment within 2 weeks. I did not involve the FOS or any third party.

I have posted this a few times but my detail is getting removed by the moderators on this site who should be on US the publics side.

All of your original messages are still on the forum. Just because you obviously can't find them doesn't mean they are deleted.

  • Hi

Please can someone help me. I put a claim into welcome finance about 8 weeks ago. I was told last week good news my claim had been accepted but needed signing off. He could not tell me anymore details. I then rang Tuesday and was told a letter had been sent on the 14th. I have not received this. Thing is the person I spoke to secomd time would not tell me anything. I'm doubting now what's going on.

I defiantly had the PPI as I have the certificate to prove it. No statements though at all. The amount I think was for 3k it was back in 2004 over 3 years with payments of 120 a month. I have no idea what to think. A) will it be accepted and b) any ideas how much I will get. I think the the ppi was front loaded

    Thanks guys
