on the back of advice from others on here, have intimated that they will give up and accept what others are saying on here. Some of that advice I would agree with of course - but ther have been some instances where it has been clear to me that because of advice given on here (with the best of intentions of course), some people may have potentially lost out on thousands of pounds. And the OP may well decide on the back of said advice to not persue a claim that appears to be no different to the many many other successful claims out there.
I totally agree with you on this one, I would love to know exactly how many people have given up on a claim because of "advice " on this site, there are ways of telling someone "no chance" without being downright nasty.

If the poster concerned does start regularly giving advice on the forum I'll happily step aside. The posts on here are becoming far too repetitive, but most of the "critics" of the way the comments are responded to do not return to the forum.
As for the "snide" remarks, I'm not sure you know exactly what that word means...

I have seen that too. Offering financial advice to others is a hooooj responsibility and should not be given lightly. People on here may not be qualified to give advice, but are happy to do so on here, with the best of intentions of course. I consider this to be equally a responsible action. Most advice on here is simply opinion - and that can be far more dangerous (in MY opinion). Because the recipient may make a potentially life-changing decision on the back of an opinion from a very respected poster that has little or no intimate knowledge of the individual facts, nor are they AUTHORISED to issue financial advice about a regulated product. I personally am authorised - but I dont for a moment consider myself qualified.

Furthermore, knowledge is a privilege and not a weapon.

This site is fantastic - but one should be careful when offering advice as one should equally be when receiving it.

so becuase you are bored you think it is ok to be snide & nasty. Maybe best to log out & take a break then

"but most of the "critics" of the way the comments are responded to do not return to the forum."

and you can't see your behaviour as part of why they don't return?

And yet again, a snide comment aimed at me. You must feel very pleased with yourself. Well done.

As I said - I am authorised to give advice, but I do not consider myself qualified.

Going back to the initial discussion, my OPINION would be - unsurprisingly - for the OP to completely treat the rejection from the institution with the same contempt as a denial from a kid next to an open empty biscuit tin with crumbs around his gob.

Reply to the institution refuting their "investigation". Then take the claim to the FOS - sending them ALL correspondence. And spend the time making your complaint.

    That is all.

I have highlighted/underlined the key part of the statement you seem to have not understood.

All that means is that I have taken the required regulatory qualifications that permit me to offer financial advice about regulated products. I also work in investment management and have done for the last 20 years. But that certainly does not mean I am personally qualified - and therein lies the distinction. I have never beed a financial advisor and have no inclination to be one.

All you will get from me on here is a PERSONAL OPINION. Again highlighted, just for you.
  • Just an enquiry, 2 years after i 1st asked black horse to look into my ppi claim( initially they turned it down saying it wasnt mis-sold, so passed onto FOS, 18 months later, they found in my favour and said i will receive an offer within 8 weeks) 7 weeks later got a letter from black horse saying they had cancelled my ppi and adjusted my remaining 4 payments and if i overpaid ppi they would refund within 14 days, jus wondered if that means they are paying everything back that i paid in ppi, was under the impression they would send me an offer, with 8% interest, is this a normal thing with black horse?
