PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I had a credit card with Barclaycard and tried the usual PPI reclaim. 2 years ago they rejected my request for info and I gave up.
I tried again last year, again I lost faith and gave up.
This year, I applied myself a bit better, spent more time basically, and after 6 weeks and 3 letters and the official forms, I got success.
As a result £9000 is being refunded. Don't give up is my advice and thanks to MSE for their great help on making the process easy to understand.
I have 4 other PPI reclaims going now - all cards that refinanced other cards- who all did that. I have a card that dated back to 1988 which I know had PPI on it as recently as 2010 - when it started I do not know, but it had high PPI on it in its last few years- several thousand all in all. The provider initially tried to stop my claim with the usual letter of 'no longer an agreement' letter. I persevered and also wrote o the FSO. As a result the provider has re-contacted me and is now reviewing my claim. I'll be reporting if I succeed here. Thank you Martin and co. you should be in Number 10 ( ok, not the top job, but close to it)
Thanks again - even if all my other claims fail( I don't think they all will) I'm still £9k up as a result if your guide.0 -
As the loan Company (Compass Finance) had ceased to trade, its taken 6 months of research, several letters and phone conversations, passed from pillar to post with companies not wanting to know, much frustration  and hubby wanting to give up and pass to a claims company. BUT I persevered until finally Lightfoots Solicitors gave me all the info I needed to chase our claim with FSCS.
Much to hubby's surprise and my delight, a cheque received yesterday for £2756.74.
Worth all the chasing for I reckon! :j
Thank you everyone for your help0 -
Very happy :-) we have just received our settlement letter from Loans.co.uk.It was for PPI on a loan with GE capital.
Loans.co.uk upheld our complaint on the 15th May. They have just emailed me and posted out the settlement letter today to me.
If anyone is having problems contacting LCUK I rang them on 01244 576251.
All we need to do now is send of the acceptance form and they said they will aim to msend the payment within 14 days of receiving our acceptance form.0 -
I have been reading Martins advice on reclaiming PPI for ages and had done nothing. I took a loan out in 2005, over the phone, and was told I would not be accepted if I didn't take out PPI. So, I stupidly took it out even though I had enough savings, my partner did, and my Dad, to cover just over 12 months worth of payments.
found the paperwork in May, copied it all, filled in the form, wrote a covering letter and sent it all off.
I had estimated I was entitled to around £3600. Saturday I got a letter offering me £2600. I was going to settle, then I kept reading. They also offered me £1400 for the loan I took out from them next, to consolidate my previous loan. It covers the extra expense I went to.
So, half an hour photocopying, filling in a form, posting it, and answering a few questions over the phone, and here I am. Waiting for a cheque from AA / BOS for just over £4000.
Thanks to this site, I'm finally going to be able to replace my car!!! Thanks Martin Lewis!!!0 -
My claim was for PPI on my Barclaycard Credit card. After reading your online advice about making a complaint I went on Barclaycard website downloaded their PPI complaint form ( same form as the ombudsman form on this site) filled it in and wrote a covering letter explaining my circumstances. I have had this card since 1990's and that I was unaware I had PPI on this card. It only covered for Life and accidents not unemployment so I felt was not suited to me. Letter came today, took about 1 month to get a reply, they uphold my complaint and will be paying me £7751.08. To say I am happy is an understatement. Thank you Martin and money saving expert for the information on how to claim with out using a third party company :j0

I've just had a successful claim for PPI on my Barclay's current account to the tune of £1,800. :j The interesting aspect of this case is that the bank itself instigated the claim!
During conversation with a helpline call centre worker about something else, he asked me if I knew what a small monthly fee I was paying was for. I replied it was a fee for 0% rate in case of overdraft. He told me no, it was PPI for it. After determining that my employer has good sick pay/redundancy terms, and the PPI was never needed or discussed with me, he suggested making a claim. He started it off and I got the claims form 2 days later. The money was in my account in less than a week after I returned it. This has certainly done much to improve their image in my eyes!0 -
After 3 years of battling with LLOYDS TSB today we finally received a cheque through the post this am for £2600 for mis sold PPI.
When we first contacted them using the template from this site, they told us that we didn't have a claim, WE DIDNT GIVE UP, we then contacted the ombudsman who then took on our complaint and Lloyd's tried to say that they had no record of our originally complaint or the loan we took out, good job I am a hoarder and keep copies of everything, We sent copies off and got Lloyds to agree to open our case again and low and behold they found all the information they needed and our cheques arrived horary !!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Tip don't give up on the first hurdle as persistence's pays off and thank you Martin for all free advice to help us do this0 -
Hello
After reading about PPI reclaiming on this site, I contacted my banks etc asking if I had PPI. Letters back confirming I had policies on 2 credit card and 1 loan. Did nothing for six months until my bank - First Direct - contacted me saying I may have been missold PPI. So filled in the form and at the same time the others for 2 credit cards. A few weeks ago got letter from Capital One with offer for £3,655 on an upper limit balance of CC of £1,850. First Direct called me to speak to me to try to establish whether I had been missold the original loan because it seems they had upheld my complaint every time it was re-financed. Still waiting for offer from First Direct and cheque from Cap One.
First Direct and Capital One have been great to deal with. Nationwide on the other hand have been very poor. Got acknowledgment that I had a PPI on a credit card but after filling in an online form, I received a letter saying I didn't have a policy. I asked for a paper form. Got one. Filled that in. Got another letter saying I didn't have a policy. Another phone call. Some of the people answering the phone have been helpful and nice but others quite hostile and I am sorry about this.
My tips -: Act NOW if you think you have been missold. DON'T give up. Send things by next day recorded delivery (£6.00ish) NOT the simply signed for option. This is a fab site - Sorry I didn't act on it sooner.0 -
Recieved written confirmation from Black Horse today, from a form they sent to me, to fill in. Final figure - £7,051. Acceptance letter being sent back on monday.
I never thought I would hear anything from them.. I'm just so happy...
I also have a loan with Welcome, but cannot remember if i have PPI, does anyone have any tales about them?
Hi we had the same :jand sent the acceptance letter back on the 17th june 13 but have heard nothing since, have you been paid out from them yet?:cool:0
