  • What were you reclaiming: Consolidation Loans
Who was the provider: First Direct
How much did you get back: £11,200
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Letter
It didn't cross my mind to make a claim then a few weeks ago I got a letter out of the blue from First Direct.
Bare in mind that my account with them went into default a few years ago and I am paying them pay through a DMP.
Anyway, I filled in the form they sent - very few details and quite vague - and sent it back.
I was thinking that maybe I'd get a few hundred quid back if anything as I had made a claim on the insurance when I was out of work.
Yesterday I got an offer from them - they had worked out what I'd paid for 3 separate loans over several years and even added interest at 8%. The letter then went on to subtract the amount that the insurance had paid out.
As a final note they said how it might be a good idea to pay off some of the outstanding debt which has since been sold onto another company.
So net result is £11200 winging its way into my account as we speak :-)

I rang NatWest on Monday and made a complaint about PPI from a credit card I didn't even have very long in 2005. On Friday I came home to a confirmation letter and a letter saying they were going to give me a 'goodwill' refund of £140. Not much compared to others I know, but excellent for the cost of a 5 minute phone call! Now waiting on 2 from MBNA (1 sent off a few weeks ago, and one being sent today) and 1 from Halifax as well. Many Thanks all

Have managed to claim nearly £17k back from RBS for a friend, I filled in the forms and sent them off. Only had two account numbers but they are paying out on 4! I am currently 3 for 3 in claiming for friends to date over £25k.

There is a little fee involved for my time lol but they would not bother if I didn't do it for them and I am a lot cheaper than a claims company! :)

Got home to a letter from MBNA, saying they are going to send me a cheque in the next 28 days for just short of £300. Very happy with this as it was them that approached me! And the whole thing was done in about 2 weeks!

Thanks for everyone's advice. By the sounds of it I should give up and not take it further. MBNA got away with another

If you had a good sick package from work, life insurance, savings or other means to repay this card should the worst happen then I would not let this go just yet.

Had a letter the other week from Canada Square Operations inviting me to complete a form for them saying i may have been missold PPI on a loan in the past.

Basically, I made a complaint against egg 4 years ago and was awarded c£1,500 so i thought that perhaps this letter was to do with that and they had made a mistake!

bit of background, I had about 3 loans in total over a 5 year period (the 1st being in 2003) but complained against the last and largest one to which they upheld my complaint.

In the form CSO sent me i couldnt remember any details about the previous 2 loans so simply put that i didnt need the ppi nor asked for it and that when i completed the loan application online i was put under the impression that the ppi was required to get the loan.

Received a letter last week to say that they had upheld my complaint and would be sending a cheque for c£1,800. Result!!

Not bad considering that i had written these 2 loans off regards making a ppi complaint as i thought they were covered by the 1st payment received!!
