To find out if you were paying PPI with loans or credit cards, you need to send a SAR and £10 to each company you had credit with. [sticky on the front page for a template]
Once you have the information, which is that firstly you paid it, and also the account number, then you can complain.
Look at your credit report [noddle, equifax, experian] to see what credit you had in the past 6 years, it will show you the company to send the SAR to.

Thanks for that advice. It is helpful but as I have about 15 or so closed accounts I am tracking let alone what is "alive" this will just be too costly for me to take a chance on whether I am owed anything. I have usually tried to avoid anything like PPI in the past but the odd one may have slipped through, don't know, but £10 a shot on all these is never going to cover what I might be owed if anything. Will have to drop this one I think

    Hi
Just wanted to give words or encouragment to all those still fighting for what they are owed.

Halifax Bank for a credit card through Ombudsman recieved:
    £14,291,78

Royal Bank of Scotland for a renewed loan through Ombudsman recieved:
    £15,000

Royal Bank of Scotland Credit card and Halifax Loan have both made offers through the Ombudsman but we do not at this point know the amounts although as there were nearly identical to the above we are anticipating two more large pay outs
Oh and we did try writing to all the financial institutions first with no luck so please please do not give up, its a long road but suprised how fairly easy it was and in the end you get back money that is rightfully yours.

Oh almost forgot, the Halifax credit card was sold over the phone several years ago so even if you do not have the ''proof'' the banks ect are demanding, you should still go ahead with your claim and not be put off. We couldn't remember how we got the card it was so long ago and it was the bank that told us it was sold via the telephone, we just kept to the same mantra, ''we didn't need PPI, '' we didn't want PPI'' ''your sales person insisted we needed it to get the card''. Just because you cannot prove what was said during the conversation doesnt automatically mean you have failed to provide proof, we won and recieved one of large sums mentioned above, dont give up.

Another success, this time from MBNA.

So far these have been the only company to send through all my transaction data under a SAR back as far as 1995 without any prompting (apart from the original request).

Made the complaint using the FOS form on the 23rd May, barely a month later they've made their decision.

    Result - £1155.96
    Competition wins:
    2010 - approx £450. 2011 - approx £800. 2012 - approx £300. 2013 - nothing so far!

Well, thank you for the encouraging posts. I am hammering:D my printer at present and saw the FOS form and was put off by all the pages but maybe I should just go ahead with that and go for it.

    Dear All, hope everyones good?

I posted awhile ago re HSBC Questionnaire, a lot of people got these sent out!!

It was all a bit Machevellian as this was out of the blue!! I think a lot of people found this so...anyhoos I filled it out sent it off end of March 2013.

Came home yesterday to find a letter with offer of £3500!!

I think Ive worked this out to be my consolidating loans!!??? With PPI taken out on each of themas advised at the time (well told actually had to!).

    Can anyone concurr??

Does anyone think it would be worth goin to ombudsman?

    Or leave it at this??

I never claimed because thought I couldnt as I did claim on one of the loans!! (HSBC stated this in there final offer workings out!)

I just have this niggly feeling...they offer no explanation no information bar the loan references and place the workings out under headings:

PPI Premium Redress; Plus Taxable Interest at 8%; OFFER.

They dont state the loan totals or apr or ppi amounts or time length all very short and vague (I also note the letter has Without Prejudice typed at the top!)

    Does anyone have any views?

Also re payment of tax I called HRMC and read up on what to do tegarding this plus wirked out a rough amount its just on one of loans as mentioned before, I claimed..HSBC noted this and minused the amount they paid out from their offer ie

    PPI Premium Redress = £3,252.72
    Plus Taxable Interest 8% = £1,770.92
Less Claim already paid = £3,122.65

    OFFER = £1,900.99

Can anyone tell me if this is all good??

Secondly the taxable part this might sound silly but how is this distinguished in the final offer will I still have to pay 20% of the 1770?? Or can I cheekily say well HSBC has taken that by swallowing it all up in the £3122 claim already paid part!! Go see them for it!!

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Thank you

    Peace:)

    Reece

Pls no sarky lectures received a few last tym...first time I had as forums are usually filled with helpful people pushing the same way for the good!! Thank you all and good luck!

I wouldn't attempt to be "cheeky" with regard the Tax-Man if I were you.

    Well done on your success.

Your complaint has been upheld so there's no point going to the ombudsman, they'll do nothing more.

You can ask them for a breakdown of the figures if you want to. If you made a claim on the PPI then that is the 3122.

Yes, you will have to pay tax on the interest if you pay tax anyway. No, you can't tell the taxman to go to HSBC.
