I wouldnt. I'd be complaining on the basis that it required more computer knowledge as a consumer than I was likely to have, to both have installed this software and used it successfully, and that even if you had done the above, you couldn't say for sure that the boxes wouldn't have been part-populated.

    And don't hold your breath......:)

Thanks for your help Taff, Sorry to be bothering you again, but should I reply to Barclaycard as you have above?? Should I ask them for screen shots?? it's just that i'm not great at constructing letters. If i've got a chance for them to overturn their decision, i'd have to have a good reply to them.

    Many Thanks again.

    Joanne :)

You can't ask them for screen shots, but you can use what I've said if you like.

I started using a computer in 1998, and it was one built for me, with a 28k modem. I managed to uninstall half of the operating system before I knew what I was doing so if you are Joe Public, or Joanne Public, then I wouldn't have expected you to know what you were doing.

Oh Ok, well after looking at the signed agreement, it was signed on 4/6/07. Just so i'm clear before I write my letter, by not installing the netscape software etc, am I saying that I couldnt've applied for this card online?? or have I mis-understood?

    Thanks again Joanne
  • Just 8 weeks ago I completed two of the PPI Consumer questionnaire on your website. I am very pleased to have received replies from the HSBC and between my husband and I we have received refunds amounting to £22,000. Can't believe it, was just a matter of completing two forms - thank you for the excellent advice and I would encourage anyone to just fill in the form and post it off - we certainly never thought we would receive anything, never mind the amount.:T

No. I'm saying that if you did apply online, you had to jump through hoops to do it with more technical knowledge that you would have had. So you may have applied online, but the steps to do it were complicated, and that you can't say for certain that the boxes were not part-populated.

Have a look at this and click on the link that says Apply. It's unlikely the website was much different 5 months previous to this, and you can include this link if you want to too.

In your original post asking for help you said you signed this agreement in 1997?
    Is it 2007 or 1997?

You're not supposed to download the software, just click on the link to see that you would have had to have done that. It's a copy of what was on the website 16 years ago.....

I think we've established your computer bona fides or lack of right there :D

Hi, yes you can see that I am completely useless with computers, hee!!

Please see attached the letter I have just put together, could you see if it seems ok? Many Thanks Joanne

    DearSir/Madam,

Re: Barclaycard No : xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx

I write withregards to the above referenced Barclaycard. I would be grateful if you couldforward to me evidence that the PPI on the Credit Card Application wasn’t PartPopulated. I am aware that in 1997 to apply for a Credit Card with Barclaycard itwas necessary to install the Netscape Software. As I have very limited computerknowledge, I know I wouldn’t have been able to carry out this Netscape installationlet alone use it successfully, so I would appreciate your response into howthis application resulted in me agreeing to purchase something that wasunnecessary to myself. Please find attached a copy of the screen, showing thatsoftware was required to continue a Credit Card Application with Barclaycard backin 1997.

I wouldappreciate a response to this within 14 days.

    Yoursfaithfully
