PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

  • Hi Folk,

I cancelled all my PPI in 2005 when I realised it was a waste of money. So I hadn't really been bothered to claim. Then six months ago, I needed a bit of extra cash, so thought, let's look at the forms on MSE. Far too complicated a process, didn't bother.

Well, actually cash is really tight and I was looking for some paperwork when I came across a handful of un-shredded MBNA bills from January - June 2000 (yes - twelve years old!), with £30-£50 a month PPI charges showing. Well, even a few hundred would be worth a punt. Looked back on MSE, decided to skip some of the steps and just went straight for sending the questionnaire to MBNA, along with copies of the bills - an hour's work tops, as mostly I ticked "don't know" (easy work for these claims companies!). I sent the questionnaires to MBNA and also to Barclaycard, as I found some same-vintage bills for them too. That was 11th November 2012.

Today (30th November) I got a cheque from MBNA for £3975!!!!!!! 19 days. Top marks to MBNA. Kick up the bum to me. looking forward to Barclaycard's response - they have 'acknowledged my letter'.

Well done with MBNA I got a rejection from them but I have sent an appeal with further information so hopefully they will uphold this time, if not it's to the FOS.
  • I discovered I had been paying £3 a month from the time I changed my Royal Bank of Scotland 'expensive' Current Account to an ordinary Current Account - thought it was a fee for the account but it actually was Overdraft Insurance - I know, what an idiot!

But I followed Martin's instructions and reclaimed - there was no way I needed Overdraft Insurance. I thought I would maybe, get my payments back. I got a letter the other day offering to pay me if I never bother them again! I got back the money I had paid (about £400) but also compound interest. Got a total of £2,477:)

It took a bit of time to fill out the form but it wasn't difficult. If you are thinking of having a try - go for it.

Heard from FOS today after submitting paperwork november 2011, they say they have upheld my complaint and have notified Barclaycard who have until 21st dec to respond
problem is the letter sent to barclaycard has some wrong info on it! most of it is correct but they say to offer redress to someone else! Have rung FOS who advised me to return paperwork and they will resend correct one, (hoping this was just a typo)
on a plus note they say the redress should be for two cards(even though i have two seperate claims in with FOS , the cards were taken out at the same time, so heres hoping!
You put yours in the same time as me did the FOS write to you with this information or did you call them. This is what i'm finding most annoying the lack of communication. With me having to ring them today they told me LLOYDS has made me an offer but they have to check the redress first which is in a different department so they have no access to give me any information as to how much i will be getting, they were not able to give me a timescale as to when this will be done they said someone will call me and give me the full breakdown once it's calculated. Then i'll have to wait for the bank to pay me.... Ohh when is this all gonna end i only want what's rightfully mine.I am really grateful the FOS upheld my claim shouldn't really complain it could have gone the other way:j:j:j:j

My husband got a letter some weeks back (10/10/2012) saying they were investigating him possibly being miss sold PPI on 2 loans 1 taken out in 2006 and another in 2008..now he knows hes never needed PPI as he was at the time in the British Army and didnt need to worry about loosing his job, i might sound a bit daft..but is it a good sign that Blackhorse wrote to him?? we keep phoning Blackhorse every week for updates but been told everytime its being investigated and should here something no later that 30/12/2012..can someone please just put us out of our misery!!
    :huh::undecided:huh::undecided:huh::undecided:huh::undecided

Leave it with them, there is no need to keep contacting them as they will deal with it.
The forces is a good reason to not need this PPI it would mean he could not have claimed on this PPI anyway so that is good, fingers crossed for you.

  • hello,
just wondering if anyone would be able to help. complained to halifax about credit card that I have opened at 1999 and had ppi on it. i have ranged them up and complained on the basis that I was led to think that I could not get the loan without it and getting the better rate with ppi. they have refused saying that they gave me a leaflet and that I was not mis-sold , but I was pressured to take the card.
has anyone had a similar situation here that could help as I would like to complain back to halifax against their decision and do I stand a chance of getting anywhere.
they have still not sent me their decision letter that they made on the 15 nov.
    thanks in advance

they notified me by post yesterday, letter was dated 30th november, from the wording to barclaycard i believe they have to go back to FOS as to whether they agree to settle the complaint, would like to make a different offer or does not agree with the settlement, so i am not out of the woods yet,has anyone else been in this situation, did barclaycard drag it out further or make an alternative offer?
anyway theypropose barclaycard pay up and have sent them info on how to calculate redress, then it says they will ask me whether i will accept this as a full and final settlement, so it sounds as if yours is definitely further on. as i assume barclaycard have to go back to FOS with my offer( if they agree of course)i think its just a waiting game for you now, but dont give up hope, on a plus note i have had two succesful claims with lloyds and payments were made pretty quick, one payment was 5 days after i got the figures and the other was in my bank account for a week before i had paperwork! not sure how long they have to pay you once you agree to your settlement, keep us posted good luck

thanks beccca, my two card were taken out at the same time but after refusal from BC i sent them to FOS unfortunately one lot of paperwork got mislaid so i had to resend, ( process for second claim was started 3 months later) i did notify FOS i had taken them out at the same time so i am assuming my paperwork from BC reflected that and thats why they say BC have to redress both cards, hoping BC do not take this further and just redress, lets hope youa re getting close to good news and of course keep us posted

I'm not surprised they rejected your complaint if you told them the same thing as you are saying above.

Your complaint is that you paid loan PPI on a credit card, and were pressured into having the loan PPI on the credit card because otherwise you couldn't have the credit card?
