You certainly did the right thing, hopefully they will look at this and uphold the claim.

    Hi all,
Thought I'd share where I am in my PPI venture:

After too many annoying PPI claims company phonecalls I decided to speak to one. Ended up having someone call to the house.
Turns out we didn't have any PPI.....but the man told me to ring a few of the older (paid in full) loan companies to find out for sure.
He stayed whilst I rang them. Told me NOT to talk about anything with them other than did I have PPI on the loans.
We had 3 old loans with PPI. He was punching the air with $ signs in his eyes....after I made the calls!!!
I stupidly signed up to his company after he assured me I had valid claims, 25% commision + VAT.
Anyway......found this site a week later......turns out the forms the claims company sent me were also on this site?!!! I had to fill them in myself. What on earth was I actually paying this company for??? I immediately wrote to the claims company within my 14 days cooling off period to cancel the contract.
Had a letter days later agreeing to end the contract....PHEW!!!!
So....I rang the 2 loan companies, 1 loan with Welcome and 2 with Black Horse. Both started my complaints proceedure over the phone.
Welcome posted me a letter asking for a copy of our passports to identify us, which we returned via recorded delivery.
BlackHorse then wrote to us with the same forms the claims company wanted us to fill in :rotfl:
So I've been reading through this forum to make sure I try to complete the forms correctly, without a claims company :T
Welcome loan (£10,000) ran from May 2003 - Dec 2003 (ended it to consolidate with BlackHorse.
BlackHorse ran from Dec 2003 - May 2004 (£18,770), then re-consolidated again with them from May 2004 -March 2005 (£24,447). Consolidated again with BH after this date but future loans didn't have PPI.
So just under 2 years in total with PPI.
Have no idea how much we were paying to any of them per month.
The 2nd BH loan, my husband was an agency contractor so we were mis-sold as he had his own private insurance for injury/death.
The 1st BH loan we were told we had a better chance of getting the loan if we took out PPI, even though we weren't explained to what it was sufficiently. Didn't realise it was another loan added to our original loan, but felt it would better our chances of success with the loan (after their persistance!!).
So today I start filling the forms in to say why we think we were mis-sold PPI
    Thanks all,
    PS Great site :T

This is because most lenders will automatically register a complaint for you over the phone and that would stop the claims company using their longer process and not being paid for it.

Yes. it is a standard form. Some companies take the same form but rebrand it.
What on earth was I actually paying this company for???

You are paying for them to post the form to the provider and add a delay to the process.

Well done on getting out of it.
Anyone got any advise on the wording please?

Tell the truth (if you get caught telling lies, you lose credibility and that can damage your complaint). Dont be afraid to say you cant remember. Those people who claim perfect recollection of events decades ago are not believed.

  • Thanks for the reply :A
Just had the Welcome form in the post, so will do the 3 forms today.
Bit concerned as my Welcome loan was before the 2005 mentioned somewhere earlier, about regulations coming in.
    Wish me luck :)

I didn't think I had a a hope in hell of reclaiming but after advice on here decided I had nothing to lose. I was also close to paying off this card so hoped I could use any money to do this.

I took out a Capital One credit card in 2000 which came with PPI. I realised after a year or so I didn't need it so had it removed but kept the card. I received my settlement claim on Saturday. Apparently I only paid £185 in premiums but they are offering me over a huge £2,200.00 due the interest. Result!

Even better I paid off and closed the account last month. :j:j

    Thanks MSE!
  • Fab news....well done
It's messages like yours that keep me going :T
  • Quick question.....just been looking through some old paperwork and found my husband's P60s. All the dates of the loans with PPI 2003-2005 have a P60 saying he was working for an agency, not employed directly.
Should I photocopy these P60s and send them with my forms as evidence?
    Thanks

Most PPI policies did cover the self employed (so you need to check this) .

There needs to be significant overlap of cover.
  • Hi,
I took out a loan with Halifax in 2006, which I am still paying back.
I filled in the questionnaire to complain about the ppi, tho I don't remember how I applied for the loan in the first case. I was unsuccessful in my claim as I got the loan on the internet and 'ticked the boxes'.
    My ppi is arounf £4000.
If I send this to Ombudsman, what sort of questions should I ask about the ppi? Has anyone else had money back after a loan on the internet?
  • Thanks, my husband was a contractor at the time, so not employed and not self-employed either :/
