The financial ombudsman service (FOS) is a waste of time. Anyone who has used them knows this.

This will open your eyes.
Seems to be a thread containing misinformation and poor understanding.
The FOS is not perfect. For every error where a consumer has got the wrong decision there is another where they got the benefit of the doubt wrongly as well. A lot of the time they have very little to go on and a lot of the complaints being made have little in the way of evidence to be able to uphold them.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
I completed and returned a questionnaire which I received from Tesco regarding the PPI cover which I had on a loan taken out in 2007. They informed me that's they were aware they had missold PPI during this time and asked me to complete a questionnaire to see whether it was missold to me.
Whilst I was aware that I had the PPI cover I was not made aware of many of the small print related to the cover and felt pressured to take it out.
5 weeks later I have received a letter confirming that the policy was missold and that I will receive a cheque for £1200. This includes 8% interest.
This success was in spite of me having claimed already for a period of time that I was off sick from work for 6months. They simply took the total of that insurance payout off my PPI compensation amount. I.e. I would have been entitled to a £2000 claim but £800 was taken off.
I am a very happy bunny and going to investigate my other previous loans and CCs. Thanks Martin Lewis for all your helpful advice😄xx0 -
Hi please can someone help me?
I am trying to reclaim PPI from Mothercare and have been referred to Financial Ombudsman who have now wrote and asked me to provide them with the underwriter details
Santander have advised they no longer have any data relating to me - actual wording in their letter to me says - all data relating to it has been removed from our records!
The Financial Ombudsman is asking for me to provide underwriting details - which I dont' have and can't provide
Any advice please?
Thank you
Can I ask what address you sent to claim for Mothercare to, as I'm about to do the same.
Thanks0 -

My mum was knocked back by Lloyds TSB with the reason given that there was not sufficient evidence to uphold the claim.
Any ideas of next steps please?

Just thought I would give my experience. Claimed PPI from Natwest and MBNA, both of these are from the 1990's and the accounts the PPI was sold are still active but the PPI was cancelled a few years ago.
First to respond was MBNA who flatly rejected it saying I contacted them and they gave no advice. This account was opened in the early 1990's and they sold PPI to me over the phone, how I was supposed to have contact them and ask for a product I wouldn't have known about previously and take it on with no advice from them I have no idea. So first Ombudsmen complaint here I suspect.
Today got a reply from Natwest. I sent them full details of the PPI and the account number to which it was attached which is still active now. Again they have rejected my claim because they say they have no record of the account numbers I have provided or any record that they sold me PPI. This I find incredible as I even sent them copies of the original acceptance letter for the PPI and a copy of the agreement which has all the information on them. I bet if I stopped making payments to the account their amnesia would suddenly disappear. Another Ombudsmen complaint I fear.0 -

If you remain dissatisfied with the Bank's decision, the next stage of your complaint should be to refer it to the Ombudsman;

Do be aware that if your complaint is weak (you didn't give any details), FOS can take more than a year to find in favour of the Bank.0 -

The only 'evidence' I had as such was things that I was told by advisors i.e that I wouldn't be able to get the loan if I didn't take the loan. Not sure what other evidence I could provide in that situation?
