After my success my brother is looking into his old loans to see if he has a case for mis-selling. He is requesting his credit agreements at the moment to see how the PPI has been added. At the time of taking out the loans he was in the armed forces which would exclude the need for PPI cover. Can somebody confirm that this would be the case? Also, after leaving the army he has been self employed which i think would also exclude him from needing PPI cover?? any help would be greatly received.
Armed forces is a good reason for not needing the cover, the self employed reason does not stand as the PPI was taken before he became self employed, but it could have made the PI unclaimable on later.
If the loans were paid in one monthly payment that included the PPI payment, this is Single Premium PPI and this is a reason for mis sell too and the most upheld of all PPI reclaims.

    Hi There,
I am a newby at this and this is my first post...Anyways Leeds Building Society, We took a mortgage out with them in September 2010 and we did sign the mortgage agreement with the PPI added on, but we did this as the woman who sold us the mortgage said we HAD to take this insurance to get the package deal on our mortgage (basically because it is a shared ownership mortgage). I logged a complaint and had a very quick response, within 7 days, and it was the 'final response' saying we werent mis-sold this product and a load of photocopies of our mortgage details. Anyhow the only thing i had done is fill an online complaints form that is tick boxes and very brief so do you think i should send a letter explaining this and see if it makes a difference or just go onto the financial ombudsman? It does say to contact them if i wish to add any additional information?
Sorry im rambling but it has peeved me off as I have no actual proof of what she said, its our word against hers :(
Please give me some advice it would be very much appreciated :)

I've had quite a good two weeks :)

Last week, I had a letter informing me that Barclays were upholding my complaint on my Overdraft Protection PPI, and that I would receive £3700 from them within 10 days!

Yesterday, I returned home to find that Egg have upheld my Egg Loan PPI complaint, and I would receive £2000 from them!

Added to the £2500 from MBNA I have already received, I am a very very happy boy!

Still have to complain about my Firstplus PPI, which I have just realised I am still paying for even though my policy has expired. Does anyone know how they calculate the PPI amount to be returned? I received my '5 Year PPI premium refund' in April and am wondering how this will affect the overall loan balance if I reclaim the PPI.

Any Advice would be greatfully received

    Well done and Congratulations!:beer::beer:

If you've already received a pay-out after the 5 years, I am aware you are still able to make a reclaim, although I "think" the amount may be reduced due to a payout, but maybe someone else can clarify on that.
At the end of the day, you were still sold a very costly policy that would have only protected you for 5 years and not for the life of the loan, a right rip off.

Good luck on this and hopefully someone who have been in the same position as you, who've received a payout will be able to explain in more detail.;)

  • Hi all
I wrote to Blackhorse in Jan 12 regarding my PPI. I had vqrious loans over the years with Blackhorse and paid many of the off early. Each time was the same story, I have to have the PPI otherwise I cannot have the loan ect ect. I wrote 1 letter and in March 12 I received a cheque for £5103 this was for 1 of the loans.
I also have a live loan which Blackhorse stated they upheld my complaint but I would only receive a pro rata refund. So I telephoned to complain about their decision. They sent in a challenge form. I have been fobbed off left right and centre regarding this loan. As when the challenge went in I was told it takes upto 8 weeks. Until today I was still waiting to hear 16 weeks later. So last night I seached this website for email addresses and proceeded with a email to complain about the service I have received. I am very happy to say that worked a treat this is my reply.......
Thank you for you email. I would like to say how concerned I was to hear of the poor service that you feel you have received. I assure you that this is not representative of our normal high standard of service, and I apologise for this. I have raised this with our Complaints Handling Unit Manager.

In view of the time that has lapsed since you challenged our previous decision I have taken over the handling of your case from our Complaints Handling Unit. Having reviewed you complaint I can confirm that we are prepared to uphold you complaint and would like to offer you a refund of the PPI premiums paid (inclusive of interest), plus simple interest at 8%.

I have contacted our settlements team and asked them to calculate the redress due to you. As soon as I have the details I will email you with a formal offer and acceptance form for you and Mr ******* to complete and return if you agree with the offer.

    Kind regards,

So I am now looking forward to receiving my next email :) Don't give up hope and keep at it I say :)
    Email addresses I used fos.queries@blackhorse.co.uk, neil.ellis@ltsbasset.co.uk, contact.us@lloydstsb.co.uk, geraint.grifith@ltsbasset.co.uk, paul.phillips@ltsbasset.co.uk

Hi all, thanks for this great site.

Literally a week after requesting the agreement from NatWest, in order to start the PPI claim, we received a letter about annual renewal of PPI. We cannot remember ever getting this before (been paying PPI unknowingly since the start of the agreement) so is this coincidence? My initial thought is to ring them immediately to cancel in case they say "well you did not cancel so that means you really wanted it so no claim".

Do we cancel the PPI or leave it running whilst the complaint goes in?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hi there.
Thanks ever so much for posting that important number!!
I rang and spoke to a lovely woman, extremely helpful!
Found out that they had sent me a letter on 29th may, but to my old address they held on the system (even though my claim had new address on).
But she sorted it out and is getting letters sent to me. Including an offer woo hoo.
Just waiting for her to ring back, as I have another question for her. Need to know if both the loan ppi claims will be in 1 letter, or if will have been done separatly with 2 different offers?? Do you know how that works by any chance? So technically they did stick to the 8 weeks.. so pretty good. But I am so glad I found your post, otherwise I would have had to wait much longer!
    Thanks again!
    Thanks a lot.

Good luck on your claim - I have a couple in with HSBC so fingers crossed!

Call me cynical but the use of old addresses seems to be a bit of a delaying tactic to me!!!! HSBC also posted mine to an old address as did First Plus who sent it to an address I havent lived at for over 10years.

Hi can you tell me how long you had to wait for Barclays and Egg, I have complaints in with both which are about six weeks old and wondering whether the 8 weeks is realistic. Can you also share what your argument was thank you.

Hi all! I am a new to posting on this forum, but love the site , I was hoping for some help. I have made a claim for ppi from Citi financial for 2 accounts that i held, but are now paid off. I sent a complaint 7 weeks ago, i phoned them today for an update and they told me an offer of £921 has been sent in the post. I assume this was for my first account which was £6,272.25.
The second account was £52,716.42. When i asked about the second account offer they said this hasn't been looked into as it was missed, but i put both account numbers on the questionnaire. The guy on the phone told me he would have to reopen this complaint and could take up to 40 days longer. What should i do ? and what amount could i expect ? Thanks to anyone who can help
