My husband telephoned Lloyds TSB in March this year regarding mis-sold PPI on a loan he had back in 2001. He received a letter on 23 April upholding his complaint and was awarded over £6000!

Payment should have been made within 28 days, and he did receive a payment, but it was £2000 short. We have notified the FSA as we were a little concerned when he rang to see where the other £2000 was, and the lady at LTSB said that they send incorrect cheques out all the time, and are always having calls of this nature!!!

It took some perseverance to get this far, after visiting the branch to obtain a loan agreement number as we no longer had the paperwork, we managed to get the number and an address to write to to obtain copies of the paperwork, we did this and had a letter back saying the loan agreement number did not exist and there was no record of him ever having a loan. We thought that we were doomed to fail, but rang Lloyds PPI Claims dept armed with the little bit of information that we had, and they managed to trace it, as well as some hidden PPI on a credit card that we had just for a short time which we had forgotten all about!!

This is correct if you made a claim on the policy, sometimes it is the case that the PPI was the same or less than the claim they paid out, this looks to be what has happened with yours.
They have to put you back in the position you would have been without the PPI and they have done this.
They paid you the money at the claim date and now they have taken it back, have you got the breakdown of what the PPI amount was and the claim amount?.

    HI Amersall

    Thank you for the response.

PPI amount is 213.46 after taking out 1442.54 for the claim. With interest less tax (473.54 - 94.71) this is a total of 592.29. I am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth and if this is correct then I am more than happy with it.

    Hi everyone,
Sent a SAR to Santander 2 weeks ago as we did not have the credit agreement or any other info relating to an Alliance & Leicester loan which was closed in 2005.
I gave them the account number and start/end date however they have today returned the £10 cheque and state as per their retention procedures they have no info on the account.
Has anyone ever had info sent to them from Santander following a SAR request on a loan which ended more than 6 years ago??? Is this the end of the road? (Probably a stupid question)
    Thanks Everyone

I had the same problem with Lloyds TSB, after sending a payment to obtain the documents they said they no longer had them and sent the payment back. My husband rang their PPI claims line nonetheless, just with the information that we had (loan account number, start date). This was enough for them to go ahead with my claim and we were successful. It's worth another try!! (Our loan was dated 2001).
  • Hi Guys jsut got a really nice cheque from MBNA for £1884.48....they replied and sent the cheque within 3 weeks of the complaint.....just a shame the others can't be this quick...:T

Had a letter yesterday from Barclaycard, regarding my old Egg account, they couldnt find any record of the sale of the PPI, therefore deemed in my favour and will be depositing £2.5k into my account shortly! !! :j:T:rotfl:
I hadn't been able to access my Egg account for ages before they transferred over to Barclaycard, and now I know why......

Here is my story. I took out a loan with Firstplus back in May 2005 for 43K. I had the PPI and the total premium was 11K. I kept up all payments and in May 2010 received all of my PPI back.

In Feb of this year I sold my house and settled the loan in full. It was such a relief not having the Firstplus millstone around my neck.

I kept getting calls from PPI claim companies (as I am sure everone else does) and always hung up on them but one time I decided to see if such a company could help. After explaining the circumstances I was told that I could not make a claim and the PPI claim company could offer no help as I had received all of my premiums back.

Anyhoo I had some time on my hands so decided just for the sake of it to write to Firstpus with a complaint. I downloaded the claim form from this site (make a copy before sending). Filled it in as best as I could stating that I did not want or need PPI when it was sold to me, explained that I was told at the time of application that this was and I quote "a fully protected" loan which is not the case as it only lasts for 5 years. complained that the PPI premium was front loaded onto the loan amount so that interest was also charged on the PPI and whenever the rates went up it made the monthly repayment higher because of the PPI.

So I waited for a response and it came within 2 weeks. Firstplus stated that there was no grounds for a claim, there was nothing that they could do and this was their final and full response (typical Firstplus).

Now here is a tip: Make a copy of your original claim form and copy the response from Firstplus. Send these with a very brief covering letter to the Ombudsman. Mine simply read please see my claim and totally unsatisfactory response from Firstplus. I would be very grateful if you could investigate this and let me know any outcomes.

3 weeks later I received a letter from Firstplus stating that they were willing to send me a cheque for £7,892 Great British Pounds. I sent off the acceptance last week and am now waiting for my cheque. Basically it is because of the interest that is charged on the PPI.

So in conclusion: Even if you received your PPI premiums back and you have completely settled the loan Firstplus still owes you money. Do not be put off by their first response but go to the Ombudsman.

So for the cost of 2 first class stamps I now have nearly 8 grand.

Forgot to mention that my loan was sold through a broker and this is what FP stated in their first response to my complaint. Just ignore this, it is a tactic used by FP to make you think that you have to go chasing another company. This is not the case. FP is responsible.

    Good luck

    Ian A

If you want the wording or form that I used PM me. This goes for anyone reading this thread

    :D Love a win with FP :T:T:T:T
I have helped loads of posters on here win with this company :D to be honest, this company is the main reason that I post on here, FP must hate me with a vengeance :D:D.

Started a claim against HFC bank mid April, called the number given on this site I had no paperwork or account number.
The lady I spoke to confirmed we had ppi and told me our account number and that HFC were going back indefinetly .
So they sent me a complaint form which I sent back about 3 weeks ago having no idea how much ppi we had paid--got a letter today saying they were upholding our complaint to the tune of £892--happy days.
The main reason I am posting though is the loan was paid off in 2004 so anyone else with old loans with HFC it's certainly worth giving them a call-as I said I had no paperwork whatsoever.:money:
Congratulatons on your win - i've just received my SAR back from HFC shows i had PPI on a loan in 2004 - so will be putting a claim in just wondered if you had the Telephone number you used ?

Need some advice after having a few successful ppi claims upheld, I advised my mum to try. She got a letter back a couple of days ago saying that her claim had been rejected. This is the first letter she has had back from the bank. It was for a credit card she took out with RBS 11 years ago and the ppi is still running. The letter included the application form that was filled in at our local RBS branch. The ppi boxes have been ticked on the form but the writing on the form is not her had writing. She only signed and dated the form. What should she do next?
Write back and reject the reasons they gave for not upholding, ask for proof that the PPI was fully explained to her at the point of sale, tell them you will not accept that their
"staff are fully trained in the sale of PPI "
If your Mum had life insurance and other means to repay this card should the worse happen, sick pay, savings etc then put these and ask why would she need this cover had it been explained to her what she was covered for when she had insurance sick pay etc, why pay for the same cover twice?.
Also I have the 16 digit number for my Egg credit card that I took out back in 2002 and closed in 2005. Who do I contact as I know Egg now belong to Barclaycard and does anyone have the phone number I should call.
Contact Barclays and if they say they cannot find you then go to Egg, other posters on here are having trouble with closed accounts and Egg, if you think they are messing you about then contact FOS.

I aslo had a Virgin credit card that was opened in 2000 and closed in 2005. How do I find out the 16 digit number?
Contact Virgin and ask if they can find you.

It is possible they have paid the 8% to you and the PPI refund will follow.
