    They have said they will credit this to my credit card balance, do you think I could ask for a cheque, my balance is around £200 debit so it seems weird to credit my card with it?
    That won't stop you spending the £719 difference, of course. Contact them and ask, but it may already be too late if it's been credited to your account.
    As for it being a "goodwill" payment, I'd regard this as a win as long as you haven't been deprived of the 8% simple interest as a result.

    SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have received a letter from Lloyds TSB who have upheld my complaint. They have calculated £1,105.53 in ppi paid on my credit card, Interest at 8% for any time my account was in credit, another £115.04, giving me a refund of £1,220.57. I only used the template letters and did not need to go to the ombundsman.
    I dont know how long it will take to reach my account, but when it hits, i will be taking it out and putting it into my Credit Union savings, they are much fairer than the banks!

    I would like to thank everyone who gave me advice..Dizzy, Cappo and and all the MSE people. Martin, you and your guys are legends!

    Thanks for your advice.

    The £719 difference is safer going straight into my saving account!! I have not accepted yet so its not been credited. I might give it a try.

    The breakdown includes compound interest and Gross interest at FOS rate so it seems to be just the use of the wording 'Goodwill Gesture'.

    I went on to the Halifax website, clicked on contact us and there was a link for ppi complaints, on there was the address that I sent the letter to. The letter I sent was just saying how I felt it was mis solded as I didn't ask for it, that the ppi was getting added on every month to my card, adding to my debt plus interest was getting added on to the ppi, therefore it was making it hard for me to get out of debt. Hope this helps.

    Writing another letter of complaint to a different address is not an option that's available (or desirable) to you.
    Here are the simple steps, and the time frames, which are the same for each complaint. It really matters little whether you complain in writing or on the telephone, each complaint is considered on it's own merits;

    Win or lose, your complaint will likely not be replied to until eight weeks after the Bank have received it. Remember, the Ombudsman is still an option should you be rejected.

    Hi Moneyineptitude, have not actually contacted anyone yet about this. Was just curious as to whether there was a separate or different contacts for halifax CC than those of the designated Loan reclaim dept. It appears from Sezyb that she used the same contact details as I did for the loans so will likely use that route as I have had very little trouble with them so far, I know there's always a first time! thanks for you advice, much appreciated.

    Remember, it's not whether you write or telephone your complaint, it's the validity of your reasons for complaint which determine whether your complaint is upheld.
    If you feel more comfortable with a brief resume of the circumstances over the telephone, then go ahead.
    Some Banks I know (HSBC for one) don't allow this and will simply send the consumer questionnaire to those who initially telephone.
